Can’t go wrong with a Deutz air cooled powered tractor. We have been running them on our farm for years.

So to start, those Deutz Air Cooled motors are good motors if they are taken care of. You gotta be diligent about cleaning the fans and air cooling system. They have good power and are pretty fuel efficient. So the other models that have the liquid cooled Navistar motors, they call them Detroit Series 40, but they are actually a Navistar motor. The later ones had a different front frame that was cut out and curved in towards the engine block, they had a sharper turning radius then the straight frame air cooled one here. Those Agco drivetrains were based on the old White/Oliver drivetrains. They have been known to be leaky around the hydraulics. It’s hard to say what you’ll end up with if you buy a used one, you’re kinda at the mercy of how well the previous owner took care of it.

Love seeing a 1st Gen Farmer going for it! Pretty cool to watch the process!

Don't have any around here, but the motors have a great reputation!!
Always thought it would be nice to have one.. no rad to plug, no antifreeze to leak.. just keep the air ducts blown out👍

if its duetz or same they didnt send the head out lol its all individual heads ment for fixing issues as per cylinder i think you can get them new still. i just split a agco allis 7600a front loader tractor. it had the high mid lo trans with 4 speeds and fast and slow speed lever. so 24 forward 12 reverse speeds. i got my clutch relined and thank god the pressure plate wasnt to bad they lit it sit for many years. as i under stand the pressure plate is getting hard to get if you had to replace it. keep the deutz or the (SHL rebranded deutz) clean and make sure the belts tight and the blower fins arent worn so it can be cooled properly and youll have very little issues

Can't comment on the tractor(not a fan of the Deutz engines, they're the reason why Gleaner fell) but I can say its said "doitz" like "oil". Atleast thats how they say it in their promos

Definitely should go for the deere, it may be a little out of your price range but that allis will be difficult to sell for decent a price compared to the deere ten years down the road.

If you keep it without overloading it they aren't to bad but I've heard some bad stories to. My ex father in law ran an r-60 with an air cooled motor and we just kept it clean Everyday.

I wouldn't walk away from that tractor I would run. Those air cooled tractors seem to be fine or a complete lemon. From what I've seen that one has been takin care of just enough to keep it going and those tractors don't take kind to that. It doesn't look like whoever owned it took care of it, leaks and stuff like that prove it. The 5mph won't make as big of a difference as you think.

I'd like to trade my open station for something with a cab and air either a JD or White. But I am heading the advice of others that farmed on their own. "Don't buy anything for a while get by with what you have don't buy another tractor just stay on the one you've got a little longer." Something to think about.

Doesn't look like a bad tractor, for me itd be about parts, service and resale value which is why i like deere. That agco tractor wouldnt bring much around here. As im sure you know with anything used its a roll of the dice. Good luck

Its actually a international engine Detroit had issues and they made a deal with international to put their engine in them but we've used agco tractor since the 90's and have had great success with them

Duetz liquid cooled in my opinion would probably be a better choice I've had better pulling Power with liquid cooled engines

I am currently looking at one of these tractors and was wondering if you ended up purchasing this one? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

I know Money Is Money, but I checked Cards Website and they have the 55 listed at $41, 500. I know you said it’s out of your Price range but compared to there asking price on the Agco Deutz. I’d try for for the Deere

33 grand for a 96 model tractor is expensive.
