In this video I will cover the nintendo Wii DVD Drive replacement. Sometimes there are errors from Disc Read Error, The Disc ejecting by itself or the game disc not playing. This repair will fix any problem you may be having related to the Disc for your Nintendo Wii.

Thanks man, a local repair shop wanted 180$ to change the drive with no gaurantee it would fix the problem because the Wii is so old. Your steps were clear and concise, if I could give you as many thumbs ups as there are screws in this device I would.

Thank you for your CLEAR and concise instructions - it took a while because of all those screws but our Wii is up and running again. By the way, just my personal tip for dealing with screws, I always tape them to the location from which they came so I know EXACTLY which screw goes where. That is easier for me than pictures although I do take pictures for other reasons. …now if we could just find an inexpensive replacement for the favorite game disc which somehow grew legs and walked off…. I was able to purchase the plug and play drive and perform the maintenance. Here’s a few call outs:

-the DVD drive listed in the description came with a tri-wing screwdriver, which I already bought separately for this but was a nice gesture from the seller.

-the dvd drive does indeed read GameCube games.

-some of the screws that were called out to be tri-wing screws in this video were Philips on my unit. There’s also different length screws so make sure you are paying close attention.

Your video is 10/10 thank you for making this! I thought my Wii was nearing the end - when I would insert a disc it would "click" three times then not load and I'd have to retry a dozen or more times before it finally clicked. I bought a similar replacement drive off Amazon that came with the screw drivers needed, then followed your video exactly and now my Wii is purring like the day I got it. I'm amazed and so happy I can continue using it to play my all time favorite game, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. Thanks!

Thank you for having such a clear video with easy to understand directions. I have never taken a console apart before and will have to very soon once the new disc drive comes in for my Wii. After nearly 16 years it started spitting discs back out and made a sort of scary sound that wasn’t at all normal. But thanks to your video I’m not as nervous about it anymore.

First of all, I want to say thanks for the amazing tutorial. It helped a ton!

Secondly, if anybody is looking for a more modern testimonial, this guide works 100%. And the disc drive he linked in the description does in fact play both Wii and GameCube games.

In terms of difficulty, I rate this project 2/5. Reattaching the disc Drive ribbon was a bit of a bother, putting the face plate with the power button back on was annoying (tip: wiggle the reset button, it doesn’t want to go in easy). And I recommend a flat head or a tweezers for the rubber feet. I used a knife and it wasn’t the greatest. All in all, a pretty easy project for anybody who wants to restore their Wii. Good luck!
