204. 'A Motown Medley' on trumpet (live Audience)

This video (sorry for the video sound skips) is from when I played a Motown medley of 2 of the 4 songs that were recorded ""I'll Be There" by Michael Jackson and "Baby, I Need Your Lovin'" by The Four Tops. It was performed at the opening ceremony talent showcase for the 2018 Hillsborough County Senior Games in Tampa, Florida, which I sometimes volunteered to play my trumpet at. A photo is included at the end of the video that shows all of the performers at the 2023 ceremony which included former Tampa Bay Buccaneer cheerleaders who did some dance and cheer routines. I played Willie Nelson's "Always On My Mind" at that opening ceremony which unfortunately no one recorded when the theme for the ceremony was country music.
Every year, counties in all U S states hold Olympic style games for seniors over the age of 50 in as many as 30 different sports and events. The top 5 athletes/competitors in each contest qualify for their state games held in different parts of each state every year. The top 4 in each state games contest then qualify for the National Senior Games held in various cities around the U S, held every 2 years. I've participated in a number of sports over the years in a few local counties and have qualified each time for the Nationals in the sport I concentrate on and participate in the most: bowling. I never traveled around the country to the National Senior Games until 2023 which was held in Pittsburgh, PA where The top 8 bowlers win awards and the top 3 win gold, silver and bronze medals. I finished 13th in singles, 6th in doubles, and our 4-man team won the Gold in the team bowling event to become National Champions. Our team included Larry DeLucas who was an astronaut on the Columbia space shuttle in 1992. He holds the record for orbits around the earth.

Being a senior citizen myself I cannot imagine competing in athletic competition 🤣. Maybe I could bring my saxophone. Nice performance and excellent event 👍👍

Thanks for sharing this video! That’s awesome that you got the opportunity to showcase your talent. I was not completely aware of the senior games, but I am so glad that they do things like that. I think it’s great that you are so good at bowling and have had the opportunity to compete on a national level and won a national championship. I’m sure having Larry Delucas on your team made it that much more special. On another note, was your area affected by the hurricanes?
