The Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli - Book Review

Recently I have been drawn to books people find controversial. I guess it is my feeling that often when there is a conflict, there must be something interesting. This is definitely the case with Machiavelli's famous book The Prince. Being denounced because of its honest description of political mechanisms, this book was the favourite read of Margaret Tatcher, Tony Blair, Mussolini, Hitler and multiple other "princes".

Great review. One of my favourite books.

Excellent review, well articulated and you would make an excellent teacher or lecturer. I always appreciate biographies and learn about significant people in history. Just one suggestion: try to always look right into the lens of the camera. If you look at some sort of notes just on the side or behind the camera lens you lose the person's attention. You are an attractive girl, have a strong voice and speak well so look right at your audience. If you would do public speaking it would be the same; scan your audience and look right at a large number of people for maybe 10 seconds each and the whole thing becomes more personal. People connect with you better and pay better attention to you!
Good luck and continue doing book reviews, it'll motivate your audience to become more interested in becoming prolific readers themselves! I read a fair bit and tried to work through Encyclopedia Britannica's "Great Books of the Western World" over the last 35 years. Unfortunately I'm not as disciplined as I should be. There is one book that comes to mind which I'll never forget; it's called "The Intellectuals" by Paul Johnson and it's about the pathetic, debauched private lives of some leading figures of history, great men we looked up to and who were of great influence yet what they did in their personal lives showed their callous disregard for their "loved ones", their wives and children. Men in leadership are sometimes even greater hypocrites!

Excellent review, this book is a captivating look at the brutal mentality and duplicity required to rule and as he said, I still believe its better to be loved than feared but he makes a very compelling arguement for the opposite too.

the prince is one of many books i have read in my time working as a vatican archivist (i always read when not busy) the prince was one that i leant to a priest friend, he said that the prince along with the book of five rings are 2 books everyone should read, they are such important works in terms of existing
