The back spin on the electric can opener does have a purpose. It helps release the can and lid. I have one that does the same kind of cut, but it isn’t electric, it has a handle on the side that you crank. One time I did a back spin (I don’t know why, I may have been spacing out), and it easily released the can and lid. It was sometimes a pain to get it to release the lid, but not anymore.

Fun fact: Mjölnir is actually just really heavy; the worthiness thing is completely just marvel taking creative liberties with pre existing things. It's so heavy that Þór requires special gloves to lift it and he's already super strong. So imagine getting hit with that. You're not just getting bonked, you're getting *bonked*

QVC still sells the ratchet can opener. I've had mine for more than 4 years, and I love it. The second can opener in the video is what I had previously, and while it was great at first, it didn't hold up. It lasted less than a year.

When I was a kid, my parents were given an electronic can opener. It got a bit ridiculous though, because I was the only one it would work for. Everyone else got really annoyed with it and I would just walk up, put the can there and it would start opening it. 😂
