When we think of ancient Rome, the first notion that comes to mind is the one of the empire, followed by the image of a mighty emperor, his legions, colossal buildings, and the Gladiators (or the rhetoric and poetry, depending on your preferences). Some may recall the image of a “unified” Europe under a single sovereign – the emperor of Rome. However, Rome did not become remarkable at this considerably late phase. In fact, many historians see the history of Rome under the Emperors as a long, gradual decline. It was during the Republic that Rome gained an empire. Most of the achievements that the first emperor of Rome, Octavian Augustus, claimed to have completed were, in fact, earned during the Roman Republic.

History teacher here... I wish you had used the word "plebeians" rather than "proles" at 07:08. The former is the correct term for Rome's middle/lower classes of society. The latter is a slang word coined in George Orwell's book "1984", and is short for "proletarians", a Soviet-era word. I doubt any history student watching will have any idea who the "proles" were. Also, Pompey's name is spelled "Pompey", and pronounced "POMP-ee" Pompeii (pronounced "Pom-PAY") is the resort city buried by lava a century later. Other than that, great video!

Caesar never said “you too Brutus”. Shakespeare would add that on in a play later on. Caesar is said to have put his toga over his face in a last minute attempt at “saving face” that was seen as humbling gesture in acceptance of death before one died in Roman culture.

But man. It's hard to not notice that almost every name was pronounced wrong.

You (the creator/s of the video) don't talk a lot about the structure of the senate you dedicate more time to julius ceaser than the SPQR structure itself.... this video is not what I expected. Tell uis about the centuriates tell us about the different roles of the senate and how to consuls were

Very interesting video. There always seemed to be a lot of resentment and jealousy when it came to the politics of the Roman Senate.
It was hardly ever a democracy with the rich running things. Pretty much like today. Still, they had a lot you could admire.

I'd like to know what the founding father were thinking, to model our government off the Roman Republic and Greeks, but even worse. As least the Romans had two Executives (consuls). The U.S founding fathers put all the executive power in One person (The President). The Roman Republic limited their bureaucracy by having a lot the different departments lead by elected officials instead of relying on appointees like our system does.
and don't get me started on how barbaric our Roman style judicial system is, with most of the bad and little of the good.

Your life matters, the message of the Bible is that Jesus Christ, the son of God was willingly punished for the evilness of humanity. He loved you so much that He was willing to die a horrible, brutal death. He was punished instead of us. But the only way to actually be forgiven and make His sacrifice effective in your life, is by believing in Him and trusting that His sacrifice was for you. Do so, and you will have eternal life.
God loves you and so do I, God bless you.
