The village of Potamia is located at the foot of the highest and most majestic mountain of the island of Thassos: Ipsarion (1,204 m.). The village got its name from the amount of water that flows from the mountain, especially in winter and spring.

This northern part of Thassos receives more than twice as much rainfall compared to the southern parts of the island. Small rivers and streams created by excess groundwater gave the village Potamia, "river" its name.

The people who live here are very warm and friendly and have an extraordinary passion for their village and for the surrounding nature. The 1,200 inhabitants, in addition to the stunning mountain views that provide the village with a natural shelter, live in a fairytale environment of naturally lush vegetation. The physical environment is shaped by many springs and gurgling crystal clear waters.
