I love both fabrics. 💙 Most of my long term favourites and foundations of my wardrobe are linen or hemp. They were pricy, I had to save up, so that I can now enjoy them for many years. 🥰

🌹During the 1700's ( and also maybe earlier ) I believe that Hemp was used for making both Canvas, ( which was used to make Ships' Sails ) and Rope. (That's what I learned somewhere, but please correct me if I'm wrong )🦋🦋

I love it when you show the Son de Flor rosemary skirt in a video and I’m wearing it as I watch ❤

Flax, the plant that becomes linen, thrives in colder climates than hemp tends to thrive in. Their seeds are both known as important sources omega 3 fatty acids, an important fat to have in any person's diet, but especially for women. Omega 6 are more commonly occurring, especially from products of unhealthy, factory farming situations, and there are few plant sources of Omega 3 fatty acids that are digestible to humans. In fact, flax, hemp, and avocadoes are the only ones with enough to make a point of the Omega 3 presence, I can think of, off the top of my head. One requires a balance of about 80% saturated fat to 20% unsaturated fat equally split between omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids for proper nutrition, according to the Weston-Price/Sally Fallon school of research and thought. Omega 3s are more commonly occurring in cold climates, and are essential for reproductive health. I wouldn't be too surprised to learn they are essential for other species as well. Anyway, they both fulfill essential roles symbiotic to human development, in their biomes. However, they also do thrive in different conditions, and so do not compete with each other directly. Hemp grows much faster than flax, and has a much higher turnover (but if you don't dead fall, and leave biomass behind, you're stripping the soil of nutrients, so crop rotation is essential), which is important for someone interested in ethical consumption, but flax is a kinder to the environment competitor with the likes of wheat, in damp, cold climes where pasture and marsh might be the natural environment. Flax doesn't thrive in places where there aren't freezing winters, and hemp is grown in tropical and temperate climates. Both have a place, though probably not the place we think they do because of how popular one or the other is among current offerings and trends in fashion.

Thank you so much for this information. I’m wanting to convert all my bedding to linen or hemp. I know that I will sleep much better.

I love a good linen tea towel, but I've never seen one made from hemp. I'll add it to my list to look for! 👍😊

Does hemp use less water to grow? I feel like I read that sometime nut can't remember where. I wish hemp were more widely available. The original US constitution is written on hemp paper.

@MyGreenCloset could you do a video on Ramie, as it used to be more common or the emerging kapok fibers as well as some wools as they seem to be underused in todays world besides just sheep and lambs wool

Can't really see how linen is less sustainable than hemp. Hemp requires warmer weather. Linen (flax) thrives under cooler conditions. In a mediterranean climate with wet winters and dry summers, flax/linen is dryland farmed in winter-spring (natural rainfall only - no irrigation). Hemp in the same climate will require watering (rivers, dams, lakes, aquifers) as it's grown in warmer/drier months.

Can you share some of your favorite pieces/brands that carry clothing made from hemp?

Hemp is even more expensive than linen. Sustainability is still largely a privileged choice. This is not criticism as such, just something to be aware of.
