iOS 18.0 Build: 22A3354 Battery Life / Drain / Performance Test

The final release of iOS 18.0 (Build 22A3354) was made available on September 16, 2024. Devices were updated to this build and given 20 hours to stabilize before testing. I ensured there was minimal CPU activity before running the test, confirming no background processes were active.

Test Conditions:

- Display brightness set to 25%, with auto-brightness disabled.
- All devices configured identically and connected to the same access point.

Geekbench Battery Test Explanation:

Geekbench 4 measures battery life by running processor-intensive applications, providing a consistent workload. It generates a score based on the work done while the battery discharges and the time taken for this discharge.

The test can be run in two modes:

1. Full Discharge Mode: From 100% to 0% battery for high confidence in battery performance.
2. Partial Discharge Mode: For 3 hours. If stopped after 10 minutes, the result is saved and can be uploaded.

Scores from methods other than Full Discharge Mode offer medium confidence, with longer tests being more reliable. Higher scores indicate better performance, with double the score representing double the performance.

Apple was pushing iOS 18 update, force closed the settings app and opted for iOS 17.7 on iPhone 12. Thanks for testing as always

So, let me get this straight.
This test shows iPhone 13 can work about 6.5 hours (391 minutes) on 91% battery health using iOS 18.0. According to your previous test of iPhone 13 on iOS 16.5 it had lasted 8h 20m (500 minutes) on 97% battery health. If we adjust battery health to this test's 91% (about 6% drop from the previous test) we'd get about 470 minutes of active time, which is 80 minutes drop (!!!more than one hour!!!) just from sheer upgrading of iOS. Are my calculations correct or do we have to take anything else into account?

I'm using iPhone 13. Surprisingly, it's working very well with iOS18. I was with iOS 17.3.1 before. I found 18 now is much better than 17.3.1. I don't know why, but the temperature control on iOS18 is very good, and less heating cases. The battery life is better

The falling performance as IOS is updated could be due to the Iphone batteries aging over time (years). Unless the battery health is the same at the start of each test the results here should be taken with a pinch of salt. E.g. For the Iphone 13 the drop from the iOS 16.1 score of roughly 4800 to the iOS 17.5 score of roughly 3600, could be due to the battery ageing (drop in battery health) over the year or so between those releases.
