Last Song

Did you know I'd go to sleep
And leave the lights on
Hopin' you'd come by
And know that I was home and still awake
But two years go by and still my lights on
This is hard for me to say
But this is all that I can take
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last time that I'll tell you
Just how much I really care
This is the last song I'll ever sing for you
You come looking for the light and it won't be there
But I love you, oh, yes I do, yes I do
All the times that I've spent waiting
Wondering where you are
Always knew the time would come
When I would start to wonder why
Now the time is here
I don't know where you are
So I'll write you one more song
But it's the last time that I'll try
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last time that I'll tell you
Just how much I really care
This is the last song I'll ever sing for you
You come looking for the light and it won't be there
But I love you, oh, yes I do, mmm mmm
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you

I love this song. It reminds me of when my boyfriend and I broke up in 1972. We reunited after all these and we were married in 2010.

I used to collect 45 vinyl records in the early-mid 1970s, and Last Song was in my collection of about 500 records.

The song came into my head this morning. Things are so messed up these days and so my mind drifts back to 50 years ago.

I never get tired of listening to this song! Larry Evoy's voice is stunning- his mastery of vibrato is brilliant!! It is a bit sad but it's simplicity is beautiful and always brings me a huge smile.

I was 8 years old when this song was released. My siblings and I got on bikes and rode to a near by swap meet and with my dollar allowance I bought the 45 record! The memory of being so young and loving music and riding our bikes is beyond special. With so much gratitude I say Thank You to Edward Bear and many other musicians. The impact on 6 sibling joined through music was amazing and beautiful. That’s what this music brought to my family! love and joy together through music!

Weird how some songs can really bring up old memories that you thought were long forgotten. Love this song and all the memories. One of those rare songs where you can understand all the words and get the full effect of the song.

I graduated high school in 1972, had an evening job, and would walk home three miles in the dark with my transistor radio. This song always came on and me feel so good!

One of my favorite for many years! I went through a very similar situation. When Larry Evoy wrote the song he said it was written over a period of a painful breakup and he was leaving his lights on with hopes that she might pass by and stop to talk! Fortunately for him it worked out for him! She stopped by, he got the girl he loved and finished the most successful song that he ever wrote!

P.S. Over 40yrs later I found that girl I had left the light on for and we’ve been married for 5yrs now!
