Figured I would record a quick video about a vintage micro cassette recorder to demonstrate how it sounds and why it can be fun.

It sounds much nicer than an imitation of such a recording.

As someone who's used micro casette dictaphones for years, you hit it right on the head.

I wish I still had our family's microcasette recorder from when I was growing up. So kool 😎

It's older. It was introduced in 1990. Thank you for sharing!

I still have a few of these recorders and about 30 tapes. I would record hanging out with my friends riding bikes and doing whatever. It's a trip to listen to them 30 years later. They definitely have a Lofi sound that seems to go perfectly with the time. I owned one from Radio Shack that was on another level. It was $150 back somewhere around 1990. It sounded almost like a regular cassette recorder. It had a better mic and better heads. The frequency response was wider than any other micro cassette recorder I've ever heard. I miss the days of this kind of tech.
Also I agree with your statement 💯. Physical media is way more satisfying than digital. This is why I still use tape and CDs to this day. It requires more work but I appreciate what I made way more because of the effort put into it.

Love this coining if possible: Anti-Cellphone idea… where we use the cellphone apps for all things. Well done Andrew ❤

LOL, I used one of those for about 10 years, to dictate stuff for a secretary to type. This was before every idiot like me was expected to have keyboard skills.

I got a couple of Radioshack branded ones at a liquidation store over a decade ago. I think I still overpaid, but they're fun little gadgets.

How does this stack up against the SM7B though?

How long do the cassettes last though.

Most of my old cassettes are toast for some reason. Except the digital video cassettes mostly.

Seems to be like the cheap rewritable CDs that last just a few years.

Effect wise, and physical media wise it’s awesome. I still use MiniDisks and other physical media for the nostalgia. Also why I have tubes in my audio chain occasionally.

This is a substandard video though. No box throwing, and we only get to know how much it sets us back time-wise, not money-wise.
