I've been in a few battles with that katana still in good condition just a little dented

That's not real Damascus steel, It's printed on. One, you can see the silver the actual blade from where they sharpened it on the edge and two, the low carbon steel in a Damascus pattern would contract more giving it a more textured look you'd be able to see from the light hitting it.
