If you have been camping out in the wild, you have probably used a water jerry can at some stage.

This simple little life hack can save you pulling out the jerry can from your vehicle, every time you need it!

It's so good finally having an Aussie doing this sort of thing! No more trying to hunt down Walmart or US Amazon products that have similar types here in Aus! Thankyou my dude

I'd consider using food grade silicone hose rather than vinyl garden hose. Not a huge issue in a temporary situation or it's short length. but garden hose can make the water taste/smell funny.

Sets up the camera in bunnings, walks away from it, then walks straight back to it.. the things you do to get those shots for the vids man 😂 love it

Created my own! Perfect! I've added another tap at the beginning of the pipe so I can keep the pipe empty for long storage time, less chance for the water in the pipe to go bad or develop a taste. Thank you. Looking forward to the next small project!

Good video. Entertaining and informative.

And thanks for not having irritating background music!

Use a transparent instead - so you can check the water level by holding the end up high with the tap open.

A good idea that suits your needs perfectly Michael. I had the same annoyance for years with lugging jerrycans in and out (and also those silly little taps at the bottom that break off) so came up with a similar but different method that suits any shape jerrycan with a large screw top. Blanked off the bottom hole, purchased a caravan sink pump for $10 at a camping show, used a hole saw to cut the correct sized hole in the centre of the large cap and screwed up the plastic hex nut on the underside. Went to Bunnings and got 600mm of the appropriate sized clear plastic food grade tube and forced it onto the bottom of the pump and screwed the lid back on. The tube reaches right to the bottom and now I can pump out water as needed and get almost all that is in the jerrycan before having to pull it out and refill. So far the plastic tube has stayed on for around 2 years with no clamp.True I don't have a hose with tap like you but I find this works extremely well and may be of interest to those who watch this video. Keep them coming!

Hey a little tip, and maybe it's OCD on my part since the stuff works so well in general, but if you wind the teflon tape the other way so that it "drags" the exposed tape end instead of "pushing" the exposed end when you screw it together it can help things seal up reliably.

As always thanks for the video and wherever you happen to be these days I hope your adventures are going well!

Good idea. Allow me to suggest something. After 20 years in the Australian army I have seen my fair share of the inside of these plastic jerries when they get broken. I strongly advise you empty them and allow to dry with the caps off if you're having any length of time between trips. Otherwise you'll get a coating of slime/mould growing on the inside. First time I saw this we got ALL of our jerries and gave them a washout with a chemical (can't recall its name) to sterilise the insides. Also, just prior to reusing them give them a quick rinse. Bugs love to crawl inside.

Nice Bud, very clever, as for the folks saying "I'd rather use food grade silicone hose", did you buggers never drink out of ya oldies or mates oldies garden hose as kids? maybe I'm a lil bit older than these folks

Legend has it that even if he had to walk 50km to the closest bunnings he would still smile. Great tip mate.

Now add an airline fitting to the cap, turn on your compressor for pressurised water. A trigger nozzle works well as a shower, or jet stream to clean your boots.

PVC pipe is a good way to store lots of water and it's cheap to make and easy to tuck up under the tray

Just a heads up on cheap, non food grade hose. The UV stabilizer used in the plastic is lead based. Always use food grade hose for drinking water.

Went for a double jerry can with a t piece and then leave on roof rack with long lead for semi perm while camping. Also used irrigation clamps. Which were cheaper. Added some o rings also behind the bung replacement. Good pressure from gravity fed. Used clear tube which was a bit pricier. But easy to hold up to check levels.

Great hack and really well presented - clear, friendly, no fuss. Well done.

I would consider buying the drinking quality water hose instead of just standard garden hose. Avoids the water taint

I did this hack years ago!! Firstly, for human consumption, you should clean the plastic jerry can or it will for ever taste like plastic! (Bicarb & Vinegar does the trick!!!) 2ndly, use the blue human consumption hose to be sure too ( though I bet most of us grew up drinking from the garden hose & I don't think it did us any harm, harm, harm huh? (did it???) another great little video mate!!👍

Brilliant, I've got a similar setup and have been using the stupid little screw in tap for years. Will definitely change to something similar
