I like the way you break things down. Thinking of things like that starts to make you think about how relationships work. Like the USA has a massive military and many of us who live here think it's a waste and there are many different privileges that come with it. But as an ecosystem in a lot of ways other countries also get a benefit from it. I'm not saying that it is good or bad but it does make everything much more complex than most people realize.

A Scorched Earth policy might be another way to implement a deterrence by denial strategy. Make it clear that if attacked the country has no problem with destroying the infrastructure that makes them a target before the attacker can gain control. I'm thinking specifically about oil extraction equipment, but things like blowing up bridges or dams could also fall in this category.
To be effective the defending country would need to accurately identify what assets the other party is actually interested in, prove that it is fully capable and willing to execute the scorched earth plan, and put in safeguards to prevent the plan from being executed without an actual attack.
If you don't have this last item, you are vulnerable to being provoked using brinkmanship tactics into executing the plan and then the expected invasion failing to take place.
