You sound knowledgeable. I sure hope you have yourself an apprentice to share it with. The industry needs good techs. Keep it up.

Solid explanation! Been a mechanic almost 20 years and I don’t often run in to techs who give a well rounded diagnosis. Its good for everyone

I can see the oil splashes from when you ran it with the valve cover off. Must have been thinking of all the possibilities when you saw the smoke blowing by the injector. And yeah I would have never guessed zip tie. I would have thought the last guy didn’t torque it down or forgot the sealing ring lol.

The fact that he's raw dogging the injectors already tells me he's a great mechanic

This guys a boss! I’m a diesel tech, have been for several years now, been wrenching professionally over 10 years and this guy is where I want to be when it comes to confidence and ability.

Damn, that sucks. The other mechanic should have to pay for his damages to that engine

I worked as a shop cleaner for a trucking company. The day mechanic had just rebuilt an engine and was putting all the little things back on the engine bay when he noticed he was missing a bolt. He searched everywhere but couldn't find it, until he looked into the piston. The bolt was too big to be pulled out, so he had to tear the engine back down to retrieve the bolt, and then put it back together. Poor Dave.

The customer was actually correct, assuming they weren't lying about another shop vs them attempting work on their truck...

Funny how every mechanic is the best mechanic they know 😂

As a mechanic on vehicles. I have seen this myself on cars a few times. Even a tiny bit of rag can cause issues in small spaces. Always need to check your work before install. Good find.

I had a timing belt replaced at an napa auto shop and when i was leaving to go home without anything on (radio/ac) and with my windows down. Everything was fine. Then the next day i went to the store and didn't have ac, i recharged the ac with die and saw it spraying everywhere. I took it back to the shop to have them look at it and he said it was a high-pressure line that wasn't apart of the job.
He said it was 50$ part and 120$ labor, and he could schedule it for a week later.
I found the line and did it myself for about 25$.
10$ for r-134a
I do think they bumped in to it and caused the leak but he did tell me i could do it cheaper. So i respect him as a great Mechanic. Honestly his handshake was the only trust i needed. He didn't squeeze my hand but his calluses pinched my hands

I had some work done on my Cummins 400, next oil change I found a feeler gauge in my oil pan.
It particularly came out the drain hole.
Stuff happens.
