To me, ghosting is one of the rudest things someone can do- whether that's with work or socially. I'd rather the person tell me the truth- that's the way I was raised.

If you go to an interview, you deserve a follow up. It is part of the utter contempt companies have for employees in general.

Even worse is being ghosted after 3 rounds of interviews over a week, and being told that they are very happy about your resume, and your answers during the interview. Only to be ghosted and never hear from them again...just rude and a waste of valuable time.

Its is NOT ok to be ghosted period It should not be something we should just get used to. If conversations have been made and you have had interviews the recruiter should answer back to those candidates. If I havn't gotten the job then a simple email back (a simple copy and paste from a pre done template) indicating they have moved on should be emailed out takes only a few seconds. These recruiters are that organizations representatives/face and they have to understand they are destroying that organizations image from amazing candidates. This behavior SHOULD NOT BE EXPECTED OR TOLERATED. This is the wrong mentality. These recruiters need to be held accountable for this behavior. The companys expert I hope when you are speaking/training these recruiters you are highlighting to them that this behavior is plan WRONG and should never be done. We as candidates do not and will not just expect this behavior. If trainers and HR recruiter leaders all speak to this and how wrong it is then the job search/that organization experience becomes much better for all with less resentment, mental health and fustrations. Sorry for the rant but simply accepting this is not right.

I was ghosted on a second interview by a VP. It was a phone interview. No excuse, no apology, no call back.

It really irks me when THEY are the ones who reached out to me first after finding my resume posted on a job site.
We schedule a time to talk, I never get the call and never hear from them again.
WTF, why even waste my time and get my hopes up?
This is happening so often and I'm just completely deflated at this point.

Ive learned recruiters only speak to you if they can make money from you

I refuse to believe that this practice should be normalized. If a recruiter or employer wants to move on from a prospective employee, they should have the fortitude to do the bare minimum. Companies should ABSOLUTELY be held accountable and not leave people hanging, especially when they're making such a big effort to support their business.

Thank you for making this video. I had a terrible experience a couple of weeks ago. I applied for a job in a great company that aligns with my resume and I had good feelings about it. I got an email from the recruiter to schedule an interview, and I replied him back with the date and time. He called me that day and he told me, he needed to postpone the interview to the afternoon because he was called for an important meeting. He never called me back and I sent him two follow up emails to schedule the interview and he never replied to me. I felt that I did something wrong but at the end he ghosted me. This was very unprofessional.

I am a member of Gen X and was recently interviewed by a younger millennial. Following the interview, the recruiter advised that I’d hear something in a couple of days. I didn’t, but I did not become upset. I applied for another position the next day, and the recruiter was highly professional. I got that job!

Avoid recruiters at all costs. It is the best way to get underpaid anyway.

Yes. Even happened from the owner/hiring managers and not just recruiters. I was so confused at first. A recruiter talked to me on the phone and was so friendly. She said she would be available to help me via phone or email and that she was giving my resume to her colleague. I never heard back and when I reached out like she suggested, I was ghosted. The worst was when I interviewed for a position and my prospective boss said she would let me know if I got the position by end of the week and if they forgot to message me then I should follow up. The end of the week comes and I haven't heard anything. I reach out with a follow up message. Ghosted. I couldn't believe it. Best part is 45 days later they reached out asking if I could do a follow-up interview the very next day. I was pleased to inform them that I was already employed. I kept it classy, but I was happy to know their hiring didn't work out. I still couldn't believe they acted like nothing happened after ghosting me for a month and a half tho

This is so unprofessional!
I took a 5 hour drive to another town for a secondary interview and it was just me and another candidate left.
30 minutes before the interview i get a TEXT that the interview has been cancelled but the recruiter TEXTED me that he would call the day afterward to find a new time for the interview.

Never heard anything back from him even though i called his partner that didn't knew anything. Called the hiring company directly and they said that the position had been filled.

I'm gonna call the HR Country Director on Monday and complain even though it doesn't affect anything.

Job hunting have taught me several things. 1 if a recruiter don't contact you within 3 days, you will not get it. If they contact you after 3 days, you are their second choice they have other candidates which didn't accept the job. Either way, 3 days and let it go, just move on.

Number one thing have found recruiters or companies ghost you for is pay. Once you give them your expected salary they know they can’t afford you they ghost you. That’s been my experience

I remember applying for a job for a company last year. They called me in for an interview. Everything seemed to go well, they seemed really impressed with me, they even told me that they would let me know if I got the job or not and that they "wouldn't be like other companies" where I just wouldn't hear from them again. Ghosted. I even tried to reach out to the guy who scheduled the job interview for me to ask what was going on. Nothing. Never got a response. Then I saw that the company had a new job post up on Indeed a couple of weeks later for the job that I was interviewed for. 🙃

A recruiter recently ghosted me from a position at a health insurance company. They sent me an email saying that I was a great candidate and they wanted to do an interview, they asked the dates I was available the next week. I was thrilled and replied back within a few hours. Was very flexible and gave them a list of dates and times. I didn’t hear anything for a week after that so I reached out again. Never heard anything back. So disappointing. But this helped out so thank you!
