My abuelita used to make a summer concoction. Kool aid with a splash of pickle juice and sliced pickles thrown in. The salt, sugar and water is like a Gatorade. Then after you had these Kool aid flavored pickles to munch on! 😋

When I was a child we only had soda a few time a year. We drank water or milk with every meal. Once in a great while we got juice like after going apple picking my parents would buy a couple of gallons of fresh pressed apple juice. For holidays breakfasts we had frozen orange juice from the can. When we went to pick food my mother would pack a picnic lunch in which soda was included. Of course it was generic but we didn't care it was a treat. So pick several bushels of corn, apples, blueberries, strawberries, and fiddle heads. Fiddle heads are a Maine thing. They grow in the spring on the banks of water ways. They are a couple of inches high so your on your hands and knees picking them in the woods with a ton of bugs trying to eat you alive. We went every day while they were in season and picked several big garage bags full. Any way they have to be cleaned and par-cooked
before put into freeze bags and frozen. We had enough to eat a couple of times a week for the year
They taste like a cross of spinach and asparagus. So yes they are delicious. Any way my point is when we went Christmas shopping my parents would take us to the little food court in k-mart pay for a large cup of soda for each of us kids and told us to stay there until they came and got us. The soda machine was a huge self server thing. So we got to try brand name soda. I wasn't impressed so I created a Frankenstein soda. Put in a bit of each soda. It was very good other people were like gross but I like it and my siblings did to. Anyway we ate the snacks my mother brought into the store and drank our fill of soda while our parents bought Christmas gifts and got thing out of lay a way. They put everything in the car and covered everything before coming and getting us. Of course on the way home we had to pull over go into the woods a pee several times since it was a hour and a half from where the store were to home. I hated squatting in the woods to pee but we had our fill of soda that was a real
