I used to be a professional colorist for a print shop in Massachusetts. One thing that should be mentioned for color critical work is the color and brightness of the ambient light, and oddly enough, what you are wearing. If you have a room that is too bright, or too warm or cool or the light is has a strong color cast it can severely skew your color perception. Also be very careful not to wear brightly colored clothing (wear dark gray or black) when sitting in front of a highly reflective monitor like an iMac. That color cast will affect your editing. Same goes for anything in the background.
We used to work in dark or dimly side lit rooms painted in a special XRite neutral gray paint, wearing aprons in the same color. Sometimes we would even completely isolate the screen using a hood and a face mask so only our eyes showed.
Yes, that’s extreme, but when you are working with corporate clients spending millions on an advertising campaign, you have to get it right the first time. ;)

I am more than happy to sit through a few seconds of "Squarespace, yadda, yadda, yadda..." to enjoy your quality content, and you really deserve the revenue. Hope this will help to increase the reach of your channel as well, because I think it is grossly underrated.
Cheers!

I am a bachelor university student, and I have been studying Printing and Packaging since 8 years and now I have got subjects like color reproduction and color management, I didn't have any notes and searched about color management for printing.

Your video seemed to be very much helpful for my better understanding.
Thankyou very much for such a great content.
Keep it up, you are going good

As usual, good job. I have a fully calibrated system and workflow. This video confirmed that my setup is correct. At one point, I was getting dark prints. I found that calibration really doesn't do a good job with brightness because every environment is different. So, I went to the exercise of reducing my monitor brightness and then making a print until I got it dialed in. You do a great job and I look forward to your videos each Sunday... I see nothing wrong with advertising. Everyone has to make a living.

As much as I know how colour management is, I've never been able to understand the differences between all these sRGB, etc. Thankfully, with this video, I now understand how it works. Better late than never! Thank you Professor!

If sponsorship gives you the freedom to create more content the way you want to create it, then go for it. Not only do I enjoy the videos but I have learnt an incredible amount from them. Ads wont stop me from watching.

Green Light on the sponsorship mate, thanks for asking/notifying us. Great, informative FREE videos, why not earn a little something extra from sponsors! Thanks again.

It was a busy week with photokina and a stunning photowalk with a great photographer on friday evening---but finally I am home again and the best way to relax while learning something exciting and interesting is to watch your new video.

Helped me a lot in my decision-making process whether to print on my own or to order prints of my pictures from an online company.

Sponsorship isn't bad at all. Go right ahead. Most of us would be happy to see you gaining monetarily for the good work you put in.

Nigel I think it's great how you can see us at the start of all your videos. Take the sponsorship just don't let them influence your natural honest style .

Thank you for that good explanation. You simplified it so well. Get a sponsor, we all love your channel and if the sponsor helps to keep it going, it's a win win for all.

Great video! I work in photography printing for a professional lab in Helsinki, Finland and I have to say this is a really solid explanation and guide to colour management for printing.

Excellent video that describes, not in extreme detail, but sufficiently for the average non-professional photographer the basic concepts of color management. Great job!

Hey Nigel, As a follower of your channel for some time I'm perfectly good with you finding sponsors that you yourself use or would use, not just selling a product. I agree with others that have commented too, this is your living and you have to cover your overhead, expenses, and time. You provide an extremely useful nitch with your videos from travel logs, reviews/overview and especially your instructional tutorials, as I call them, after all, your time and effort deserve to be compensated.
Thank you again for another very informative instructional video, I found the information and topic very helpful. I've been trying to calibrate my screens, this is the next thing I need to accomplish. I'll be checking out your links in the video for a calibration unit. I also appreciate the info for getting one's printer properly calibrated for the correct paper/printer profiles, I didn't know that was available, I need to check this out too, thank you!

In relation to sponsorship of your channel you should 100 percent do it. You’ve earned the right to do it and you should be paid for what you do. Your content provide value to the viewers therefore you should be rewarded for that. Very informative video by the way. Really enjoyed it as always 👍🏻
