Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water follows the journey of Jake Sully and Neytiri's newfound family. Despite their best efforts to keep their family together, a familiar threat resurfaces and forces Jake, Neytiri, and their four children to flee to the land of the Metkayina clan.

Avatar: The Way of Water's plot will be a fully-encapsulated, standalone narrative, as will the other sequels, but will also be part of a meta-narrative that extends across Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar 3, 4 and 5.

Those deleted scenes were definitely needed, not only did it show us how crappy earth looked, but there was an entire couple of scenes dedicated to natiri's dead sister and augustine's school.

The most important part of this alternate opening is that it shows maglev monorails wizzing overhead. The maglevs need electrical superconductors to work efficiently, and guess what is perfect for that job? Unobtanium.

I didn’t kno it was a “alternate”opening. in the extended edition you get to see this scene plus the normal stuff from the theatrical version as well
