Snakes are probably one of the most feared creatures in the world and while this is perfectly normal, it may be a bit of a stretch as out of the 3000 species of snake, just over 200 of them pose any considerable danger to humans and among these 200, there are a select few with the most lethal venom.
Welcome to Brainghetti. In our video today, we’ve sampled the top 5 of these bad boys, and trust me when I tell you that you’d rather not cross paths with them.
Now let’s get started.
In number 5, we have the King Cobra. The gigantic King Cobra, which is the longest venomous snake in the world, is well-known to almost everyone. Cobras can reach lengths of up to 4 meters as adults, although the biggest one ever seen measured about 6 meters. It is indigenous to Asia and is primarily present in Sri Lanka, India, and Myanmar. The King Cobra is thought to hunt mostly snakes, despite its terrifying reputation. Generally a non-aggressive animal, it only attacks when it feels threatened or when it is incubating. The King Cobra can, however, hold its bite for up to 8 minutes once it has struck. The bite can cause excruciating agony, paralysis, and, in mild cases, sleepiness. These mild symptoms, if untreated are usually followed by cardiovascular collapse, coma, and even death. The fatality rate for a King Cobra bite is between 50-60%.
Number 4, the Barba Amarilla. The Barba Amarilla belongs to a species of pit viper that is indigenous to northern South America. Although it spends most of its time on land, this venomous snake may hunt for prey in a variety of ways. This species is deadly because of its high irritability, ability to blend in with its surroundings, and quickness of attack. Additionally, an Amarilla bite can result in symptoms like severe bleeding, blisters, kidney failure, and unusual blood clotting. But in the worst-case scenario, it frequently results in central nervous system bleeding, which can be fatal. Years ago, after receiving anti-venom, a patient in Brazil who had been bitten by an Amarilla died nonetheless. This is how dangerous the Amarilla venom is!
Number 3. We have the Belcher’s sea snake. The Belcher's sea snake, as its name suggests, like to hang out in the water, especially in the Pacific and Indian oceans. Since it lacks gills, it occasionally pops up to obtain a nose full of air, just like any other sea snake. Its primary sources of food include small fish, shellfish, and even eels. Despite having potent venom, it primarily hunts by ambush because an open-water chase is likely to result in defeat against a fish. It is a fairly shy snake, according to experts, who claim that it only bites when startled or threatened. Therefore, you will hardly find a snake bite involving this snake and even when it does bite, it injects only a small amount of its venom compared to other venomous snakes. But make no mistake, this small portion is still highly potent and can cause death in only 30 minutes or less and that means immediate treatment is required for anyone who gets bitten by this snake to prevent death.
In the second spot, we have the Black Mamba. After King Cobra, the Black Mamba is another rather well-known snake. It is also one of the most feared snakes in sub-Saharan Africa. Its mouth color, not its body color, is what inspired the "Black" in its name. Black Mambas are known to grow to lengths of up to 4.5 meters, although most are much larger, at an average of roughly 2-3 meters. The Mamba is one of the world's quickest snakes despite its enormous length and amazing speed. According to National Geographic, the Black Mamba can slither up to 12.5 miles per hour or 20 kilometers per hour. Despite having such a powerful venom, it only turns to it as a last resort for defense. The venom works almost immediately and can lead to a collapse in about 20 minutes in the absence of treatment. An interesting fact to note is that before the antivenom was available, Black Mamba bites would always lead to certain death.

Now you’ve probably never heard of this snake, but you should never wish to cross its path as its venom is very deadly. In the number one spot, we have the deadly Inland Taipan. The Inland Taipan holds the title of the most venomous snake in the world. It’s no wonder that it is sometimes referred to as the fierce snake. This specie is very dangerous and not only does it have the most lethal venom among all snakes, but it also has the most lethal venom among all reptiles. The Taipan is native to central and east Australia where they were first known to scientists in the late 1870s but disappeared until they were rediscovered again in 1972.
