I start with checking every flat surface in the house. When I mindlessly lay something down, it's usually on a flat surface.

I recently lost my passport 5 days before leaving the country. I was in a panic and had no idea where to look. Once I calmed down and searched everywhere (the places it should AND shouldn’t be) I was able to find my passport in a folder within a box that I packed to move.

So my advice to anyone reading this is to search every box, drawer, and folder even if it’s unlikely it would be in there
