Here is what I think is happening.

These are ceremonial tears of the bride leaving her parents and people to go to her new husband and the family.


In my part of Nigeria, it was called "ẹkun ìyàwó". The tears of the bride. There were even parody songs for the concept.

She's weeping because she's leaving the pampering of childhood to commence the no-nonsense rigours of married life.

From the painful wedding night of losing her virginity, to being at the husband and extended family beck and call. She's got to grow up!

It's her party and she'll cry if she wants to!

Mum gets swatted at for trying to console the girl. Evidence of the mollycoddling that's made the transition even harder.

It's all good. Just the dumb channel creator assumed she was leaving because of the display of distress.
