Rainbow Mountain - 0:00 - 0:42
Cusco - 0:43 - 1:30
Sacred Valley - 1:31 - 1:54
Lima - 1:55 - 2:15
Miraflores - 2:16 - 2:34
As with most trips to Peru, our first stop was in the capital city of Lima. We spent a couple of days exploring the central part of Lima (around the Plaza de Armas de Lima) and along the coast in the touristy area of Miraflores. The Plaza de Armas is the historical center and contains the Cathedral of Lima and the President's Palace. Miraflores is where most tourists spend most of their time in Lima. The beaches along the cliffs remind me of the Santa Monica/Malibu area back at home in Los Angeles. The Parque del Amor (Love Park) is a popular overlook for sunset as is the lighthouse (Faro la Marina). There is a walk along the the cliffs' edge that you can even catch the many paraglides that fly each day.
Cusco Peru was our second stop and is an amazing city to use as a base for exploring southern Peru. However, don't forget to also explore Cusco while you are there. From the historic center of Cusco to the many Incan ruins, there is so much to see.
Just outside of Cusco is the Sacred Valley, which is a must-see when in the area. There is so much to explore there and this drone video shows the Maras Salt Mines, Ollantaytambo and the ruins there as well as Pisac. The Andes Mountains make for a spectacular backdrop for some amazing views. We hired a private van to take us from Cusco through Chinchero, Moray, the Salt Mines at Maras and finally dropping us off in Ollantaytambo. We later spent a day driving from Cusco over the mountain to Pisac to explore more of the Sacred Valley.
Vinicunca, better know as Rainbow Mountain is also an absolute must-see when in Peru. The drive is far and the hike is brutal but the views are so worth the effort. At an altitude of 17,000', over 5,200 meter, the air is very thin and the makes the hike that much tougher. The colors are unbelievable and the Andes Mountains make for a spectacular backdrop with some amazing views. I had to pay quite a bit to the locals to be able to fly the drone for your viewing pleasure.
I hope that you enjoy the video! If you want to see an extended version of each of these places, see the links below.
