I don't understand how anyone can dislike your videos.

They are just so inspirational and educational….Ønsker deg og dine en riktig "God Jul" fra Norge.

You're so right about shooting local; I've got one of my very best images of this year from my local park 15 minutes walk away. I look at photographers who are forever travelling the globe in the name of photography and wonder if they have any concern for the climate and the environment.

Definitely I agree with you. Let me add that when I was in "epic places" like Senia, Lofoten, or the amazing fjords in South of Norway or Lapland during Aurora my pictures never fully satisfied me. Too much similar to many others I had seen. I had no time to wait for better conditions or to repeat. Too few time, opportunities. Too little knowledge of the place and viewpoints. Instead locally you have quite infinite opportunities to go back and give value to a place you have already seen. To do something exceptional. Forecasting the best day for composition, time depending on sun, moon, stars or simply going out and look at the light, clouds, colors and create compositions, some poetry, some art.. For your soul and stay well with yourself, your camera and your ideas and your sight I noted that people of your same location are amazed and surprised when you can show the simple beauty surrounding you during the seasons, the night, the day, the twilights, the special moments

BRAVO! MADS! You grew older and wiser. It's not about "making" oneself happier but about "being" happy with what is there!

I think this is so true you can capture shot that no one has because the are unique to your area.

Totally agree, Mads. Photography helps you "see" what is around you. When we do that we find where we live is more interesting than we gave it credit for. The photos people want to buy near me are the local ones - very rarely Venice or Paris.

I agree with you regarding photographing your local area. Many photographers do not see anything worthy of photographing near their home area because they see it so frequently. For example, I live in a forest in the American Southwest and have found that people living in other parts of the U.S. or other countries find it very beautiful. Most people after living here for any length of time find it boring, simply because they see it every day. Trying to see your area as others see it can be a great benefit.

Can so relate to this video, downside with Photography is the cost, still have 4 months of saving before i can get my Camera. In the mean time i have scouted my local surroundings to death with my mobile phone. Makes me appreciate too my local area on what it offers and gives in its beauty. I have the compositions logged on my local map, just need the camera and the knowledge of that camera and then put this wonderful local landscape to frame. Excellent video Mads, so true in what you say. Thank you and Merry Christmas mate.

I think playing in your home area is a great way to hone your skills. You aren’t being rushed. Your not at that epic location where your trying to get that shot. Like you said, you’ve already have done your homework. Now the real fun begins.

So true! I live in a barren geographical area and struggle. Week in and week out I watch these videos (from you and a few others) and have realized that I cannot become a better landscape photographer by just watching videos. I need to force myself to get out and shoot locally.

Good advice! I just got back from 3 hours of shooting photos in our local regional park — looks a lot like the one you were walking around in. I do this often. I take one camera and one or two lenses — no camera bag, no tripod. Just focus on one combo of camera and lens — good learning experience.

This video I like it so much, it gave me so much comfort. I have no possibility to travel to other countries. Sometimes I'm really sad, but with your video give me more happiness to photograph in my local backyard. I wish you Merry Christmas.

Most inspiring! Another pre to continue my quest for local photography around the scenic village i now live. It was home of one of The Netherlands most iconic art-painters and is surrounded by forests and farmlands, waiting to be explored

You hit the nail on the head on this one! My last trip to Iceland and the Faroe Islands I had not got out before the trip to work with some
new gear. The first day on sight for photography I was stumbling with things, I pretty much messed up a lot of 1st day work. Have a plan, know
your gear and maybe even create a cheat sheet or to do list. Too many times I would arrive at a sight and photograph the area only to remember at the end
I wanted to do a time lapse video, should have been the first thing I set up to manage time wisely. Next will have a site arrival to do check sheet
in order....Video time lapse, slow motion (waves or water, action), Photo's...bracket, pano, focus stack, High F stop, Low F stop, Low shutter (motion blur) etc.
gather everything you can to work on once home. And remember plenty of Memory cards!

Thanks for sharing those videos, I appreciate greatly. I learn a lot and get motivated following you. This last one is great, you are right we don’t need to travel all around the world but the next forest, the next mountain our landscapes are full of treasure above all when we get the chance to leave in a nice surrounding, like yours our mine in the Swiss Alps. Wish you the best for 2020.

I have been hiking/photographing a canyon in my local mountains over a period of 50+ years. It isn't spectacular in any way, but it has a tremendous amount of sentimental value to me. It is the first hike my mom allowed me to go on unsupervised, and I have been traveling its length, quite often, since then. Many thanks, Mom. Recently I had the "blessing" of hiking this same trail with my grandchildren. I don't know if life gets any better than that. Looking at the scenes as they appeared before me, I was mindful of how much the canyon has changed, yet at the same time, how much it has remained the same. Staying local has many benefits... Health and happiness to you and yours, Mads.

I have started doing exactly that. And it is so much more satisfying when you finally get one right.
