I always get a chuckle when the speed of a nuclear powered ship is displayed. This sub is rated with a top speed of 30 knots. When I was in the Navy (many years ago) I talked to submariners and, believe me, the top speed of those subs is quite a bit more. Unlike the WWII diesel subs that had a higher top speed on the surface than under water, the newer one have a higher top speed under water than on the surface. This is due to the designs of the hulls of the different ships.

As a SSBN sailor from the '60s I made 3 patrols of 65 to 75 days each out of Guam!! We carried 16 missiles with 4 warheads each, that's 48, 2-4 megatons yield each!! That's a whole of fu&kyou!! And we were one of 41 Boomers, that's 48 times 41 which is almost 2, 000 warheads, although some early boats carried only 12 missiles and the newest boats carried 24, and not all of them were at sea at the same time!! I was astounded at the complexity of the SSBN USS Tecumseh, my boat for two years!! Serving on a missile platform that could destroy half of our planet in 20 minutes was a bit unsettling, but after a while I understood the whole purpose of our boat was only be ready to fire our missiles, if we ever had to shoot them our mission was a failure, 'MAD' as it were!! Our boat could solve 16 missile target calculations, and 2 torpedoes solutions every second, and had less computing power than todays modern smart phones!! These old boats could only go about 22 knots fully loaded, at flank speed, the new boats I'm sure are a lot faster!! The SSBN 628, USS Tecumseh's keel was down in 1959!! Peace!!

Our Canadian submarines are diesel powered and are pretty good except the screen does keep leaking.

Those Trident Missiles are something else. Amazing how a 560 foot long missile fits in a 43 foot beam. Those missiles must be like those very compact sponges that all you do is add water and they expand, ha, ha. I used 6 Ft. as an average height and I got 6 / 6 Ft. or 36 Ft. + / -

I'm a huge fan of subs and the "silent service" but don't know all the nitty-gritty of their operations and capabilities. Having said that, I'm wondering in the modern satellite age are they still viable as an offense and defensive platform?

One of our missile boats has been able to do that for years.

I like to think about time travel and weponry. a 9mm pistol in the middle ages could have changed the world. One of these in the atlantic in WWII could have also ruled the entire sea. amazing.

Dollar for dollar our modern submarine fleet is the best defense system we have. The Russians, Chinese, and N. Korea all likely know where every land-based silo is down to the inch on GPS. And all surface ships, including highly expensive carriers, are all called what by our Navy attack boat sub crews? Targets.

Water-Jet Propulsor, funny how in the movie- Hunt For Red October, they were developing the CAT system back, which also was a Jet-Propulsion idea, which was the Russian version of this WJP of today. Did America decide to work on the idea for the future.

The shipyard is in Newport News, Virginia. 400-450 miles (640-720km for those still using the metric system) away from Connecticut.

We can do that with our Minuteman 3s... we've had those since the 1970s

The moment at 09:25 in the video with the maintenance guy pounding a tire iron on the hull, is somewhat disconcerting of a video to portray to our adversaries..

I love how the title has “finally!” in it, as if we’ve been waiting to wipe Russia off the map
