aLIEz - Aldnoah.Zero ED2 [Piano]

Here is my piano cover of aLIEz, the second ending song of Aldnoah.Zero, which aired in summer 2014. It is the spiritual successor of my Bios (Guilty Crown OST) arrangement I did years ago, because it features a lot of big left hand jumps and it's from the same composer: Hiroyuki Sawano.

The very first thing I noticed while listening to aLIEz is the ever-present drum set, constantly playing an off-beat rhythm throughout the entire piece. I tried to replicate it in the left hand by playing a pulsating rhythm which is completely independent of the right hand. This whole piece is essentially a rhythm etude to train the coordination of both of your hands: Multiple layers of different rhythms are played at the same time in certain passages.

Similar to my previous piano arrangements of Hiroyuki Sawano's compositions you can go ALL out with the volume this time. Especially the section starting at 2:53 should be played in the most convincing forte fortissimo ever, the whole piano should be shaking at this point, and every listener should trembling with awe.

I started to learn this piece about 1.5 years ago and after 1 month of on and off practice I managed to play this piece ok-ish on 70% speed... and somehow no matter how hard I tried it always sounded messy. I realized that my skill was not high enough for this piece... a year later I came back to this piece and there was still no real progress... Only after I learned it by heart and many hours more I can now play it almost perfectly.

What I learned from this piece is invaluable for my piano playing... After finishing this piece my skill made a huge jump up... Other "difficult" pieces suddenly became easy to play.
This piece is currently my favourite piece of all time and the feeling you get when you play this with your balcony open is uncomparable. I wonder if my neighbours actually like this piece, since I already played it for almost 2 years^^

This is absolutely godly. No piano cover except this one comes so close to the actual song. The off beat bass creates the drums that essentially powers the entire piece. And the slamming of the harmony in the right hand starting from 2:36 must be absolutely painful oh man. I know there’s skill in that to make it hurt less but Jesus that’s amazing. It’s hard to really get the full complexity of his pieces until u Iook at a synthesia and other attempts at his version, but once you see those... his hands are not from this world. This is simply a perfect transcription.
