OKLAHOMA CITY – Trixie Racer has a pedigree to be something special and she showed that Sunday by remaining undefeated after two starts, winning a stakes race at first asking in the $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial Stakes at Remington Park.
This 2-year-old filly by Kentucky Derby winner Orb, out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Venetian Cause, has amazing blue bloodlines and looks like the real deal after two starts. Trixie Racer had eight bullet workouts on her form before she had even started a race, the fastest works of the day at Remington Park and Retama Park near San Antonio. She won by 1-1/2 lengths in her maiden race at Remington Park on Aug. 29 and then got up by a nose at 6-1/2 furlongs in the E.L. Gaylord. Her pedigree says she will excel at longer distances.
Danny Sorenson rode her to victory for owner Speed Racing 2018, LLC, of Cibolo, Texas, and trainer Danny Pish. She won $30,000 in the Gaylord and has now earned $49,443. Trixie Racer was bred in Kentucky by Catherine Hudson and was purchased at Keeneland in 2018 for $35,000.
Trixie Race covered the distance in a winning time of 1:17.48 for the 6-1/2 furlongs over a fast track after fractions of :21.50 for a quarter-mile, :44.49 for a half-mile and 1:10.80 for six furlongs. She sat well off the early pace in seventh before making her big closing run coming off the turn into the stretch.
Trixie Racer was at 3-1 odds in the wagering and paid $8 to win, $4.20 to place and $3.20 to show. Topless settled for second after a tough stretch duel with the winner with Henny Fly finishing third, 5-3/4 lengths from the winner. The remaining order of finish was Green Destiny, the beaten wagering favorite at 4-5 odds, Lone Star Lady, Baby Leche, Smart Lassie, Twirling Around, Beer Can, Flat Precious, Tap And Spin and Fire Of Gold.
The race went as the 13th and final race on the special race card of Oklahoma Derby Day. It was also the last leg of the unique Sooner 6ix pick six wager. There was no unique ticket for hitting six-of-six so there will be a carryover into Thursday night’s racing of $66,387.09. Those who did correctly select all six winners were rewarded with $783.46.
The first race on Thursday, Oct. 3 night is 7 p.m. There will be no racing on Wednesday next week due to the special Sunday program for the Oklahoma Derby.
