Please don't pull the insoles out of shoes you haven't bought. You're damaging a product someone else might purchase. You can still use this tip, just slip the template in the shoe and see if it fits correctly. Or, since you are drawing an outline of their foot that is slightly larger than their actual foot, just turn the shoe over and measure the template against the sole.

I have been there and felt over whelmed when bringing the kids places. But hear me out.. that's now the time to leave them at home. Their opinion on the shoes, bringing them to show the process, learning how to behave in public.. it's good for them!

When I worked retail people did this all the time and the tore up the children's shoe section looking for the size. It was a nightmare.

Childhood memories . My mom used to do that for me and the shoes used to fit perfectly.

I don’t see why you don’t jus bring them to see if they like the shoe and if it’s comfy

Great tip for when you don't know their shoe size becuase of different brands and when you are shopping without them for whatever reason. (Example, kids have other events/too active in the store) 😉 just incase people were wondering.

Damn imagine your mom picking out your shoes and you having no option... it's not like those kids are toddlers either. They should be able to buy your stuff🤪

That is what I did when my 4 kids needed shoes in the 70's and 80's.

Wow. How many people are commenting that you shouldn't remove insoles without realizing that you specifically shown an insole that's meant to be removed for measuring.
Only downside to this method for me is that you cannot check for the fit of the shoe on heel and arch.

That's clever i never would have thought of this! Thank you so much!

Or you can just look at the size on the shoe

All these ppl commenting clearly don’t have young kids and certainly not boys 😂 my boy doesn’t give two licks about his shoes, all he cares about is playing outside and getting muddy. Love this hack and will be saving to use in the future!

Make sure they’re standing and you can have the shoe salesperson measure your cut out. My parents did this when I was a child and I did with my daughter. Also, it can be mailed to grandma so she can go shoe shopping as well 😆

I've been a shoe salesperson, so as a professional- many brands have insoles that are MEANT to be removable. You will _know_ if they aren't. Brands like Asics and New Balance have sneakers that you can replace the insole with an orthotic, and as long as you put the insole back, the store will not care that you popped them out. If the insole is sewn or glued in, it will resist a gentle pull, and you just...don't.
I also am assuming this mom, like the MANY MANY MANY I have helped over the years (and my own mother, when I couldn't go with her), brings the shoes home and has her kids try them on there.

Okay good idea but you need a stensil for each foot as each foot can be a different size. So when buying shoes, you should be picking shoes to fit the bigger foot. (Also allowing a thumb space at the front for growing room)

I’m 64 yrs old. My mom did this when we were kids if she went to the store. If she ordered from a catalog you put your foot on the measurement chart at the back of the catalog.
