How Fortnite Became Unkillable

A few years ago, everyone was claiming Fortnite was dying, even though it was making billions. Why were people expecting it to die, and why hasn’t it died yet? The truth is, it cheated death multiple times.

I personally think it’s not that the game is dying it’s that the old player base is moving on and a new one has taken its place.

The no build mode was a great addition to helping more casual players get back into the game.

The "no build" mode in Battle Royale is what brought me back to the game after YEARS of not playing it. Now, I'm almost addicted to it every weekend. I'm not the best at it but I'm also not the worst. It just seems so much more fun and casual nowadays.

Another reason Fortnite hasn’t died is because it’s one of few games that constantly listen to the community. Many loved things are fan made like meowscles, haunted hills and chug splashes. All are things that come to mind when you think of Fortnite and that’s how you keep an engaged community

I definitely say the no build mode has extended the life of this game longer. Also that it's less sweaty compared to the original build mode.

As another video regarding Dead Games put it, Fortnite has fought very hard to keep it's position on top of the gaming market. Whenever it sees a threat to it's game, it works REALLY hard get a solution. Right now, for example, they're working on an upgrade to their creative mode system to allow players to build creations in Unreal Engine. Add in a system to search for and view these creations/ maps, and you've got Roblox with better graphics and (hopefully) better creations.
Epic are now trying to turn Fortnite into the Metaverse and if you ask me, I'd say that'd be a better option than Facebo- I mean *Meta's* version.

Same reason minecraft didn't die post-1.9. The playerbase is young enough that it won't leave, and there's enough media about the game that they never need to advertise again.

I’d say because it lets you do more than just shoot a gun. And it does it better than its competition. Using memes and viral videos as their inspiration for emotes was a genius marketing idea. And their physics are so smooth, the dances and other emotes look natural and not awkward like the CoD emotes or other games. The fact that their creative games add variety like deathruns, escape rooms, races, horde mode, etc etc…it’s hard to get bored with a game that keeps giving, especially with new seasons and their collabs with popular shows/games — yet another genius marketing move.

been playing the game for 5 years and I can confidently say it's been a fun ride with many ups and a few downs, though I can't play as much as I used to, I see myself continuing to play this game for many more years to come, it won't last forever, but for what's it's worth, this game will always have a place in my heart

The bottom line here is that there are way too many games that focus on the competitive aspect of gaming, so much so that games that used to be casual, like Call Of Duty, became extremely sweaty. The increase in competitive shooters or switches to competitive gaming leaves a huge empty void that is the casual audience, the majority of gamers that would come back from school or work, plug the system and play to clear their minds of the things in life. Epic Games saw this and decided to tackle that player base instead. That’s just my 2¢.

I would love an updated version of this after the OG season coming back and the new chapter coming out. Great video!

Heres why its not dying: it bacame basically a social media for people who are in class together and you cant just say, im not gonna be part of it anymore. People hang out in class and in the afternoon in Fortnite. We did this back in the days on Facebook and such, pretty much the same. The spikes you see around updates are people who play multiple games checking for new content, the baseline is teens just hanging out. And Fortnite was the first game to realy make it possible for anybody with any gaming device to join plus they had the momentum to draw everyone in.

Surprised this didn't mention Zero Build! It was the reason I got back into it. I played """competitively""" in 2018/2019 but later switched to other games. Recently I started playing again as Zero Build let me and my not as good friend play without being stomped on 24/7. You didn't need to spend hours perfecting building to get good, you just have to know how to hide behind cover and time your shots. It's a completely different way of playing that allows us to enjoy it without dedicating hours to it.

Not dead as:
-consistent, (usually high quality) updates every two weeks
-Interesting on-going lore
-special events and free rewards happen a lot
- battle pass gives something to grind for even if you don’t have it
-6700 collaborations per season
-Map changes and
-Loot pool changes keep the game fresh and interesting
-As old players quit, new ones take their place
-No builds fixing the sweat issue
-creative 2.0

Honestly how the game evolves with the map, gameplay & constant skins releasing i could see why it has the longevity it has. Especially sense it connects with all age groups of players, from 10 years old all the way up to 40 years old probably higher for some people. Could see the game going on through the generations at least a couple more generations at least

Even if the general playerbase dies the sweat playerbase will be playing for decades after. When you spend a certain amount of time in a game you dont stop playing

Great video. I've never played Fortnite. I know of it but my online gaming days are far behind me. Now, I relax from work with some single-player games. So, that your video kept me watching says a lot.
