Thank you, multiple people comment that the multi-core are more raspy but they sound so similar to me I think I'd save the money and go with the single core.

My idea would be to pack the center between the cores with Rockwool or ceramic muffler packing, or cut this muffler open & re-pack it with a very high quality packing by Accosta-Fil to try & improve sound control...🤔. It is unique muffler but I bet Borla is not using premium materials...

They are definitely closer than anticipated. Forums and such say the Multicores are supposedly quieter over the single core yet here that doesn't seem to be the case, I already thought the regular XR-1 Oval 12" case was raspy, but this is even more so I think the small cores inside are what gives it that different raspyness almost like the ATAK. I like the sound. These videos are very helpful 👍

A lot of comments about rasp, it's not surprising that the multi-core would sound a bit more raspy. You will always get more rasp in a system that has either less muffling or more turbulence. Turbulence introduces a lot of high frequency random noise, think the hissing sound it makes if you blow into a bolt hole with your mouth to clean it out. Wacky cores, weird sharp merges, tees off, chambers and flow dividers, cutout butterflies, all add a lot of turbulence to the flow so without muffling after it to attenuate that high frequency noise you're going to get rasp. That's why an equal length setup with smooth shallow merges, good straight through mufflers, and pipe that isn't oversized, usually sounds clean. Contrast it to your stereotypical 2000s flowmaster exhaust mustang (raspy and hollow sounding because of the chambers and otherwise undamped muffler), ricer boy racer car (big 3" pipe on a 200hp 4cyl with a 5" muffler that does almost nothing), V6 camaro with aftermarket exhaust (unequal length manifolds and downpipes before the merge, oversized pipe for the power) are pure rasp generators. It's also why rasp is associated with cheapass exhausts like fence pipe true duals with cherry bombs, and not premium sounds like the baritone of an AMG V8 from the 2000s or the musical wail of a LFA.

I like the xr-1. Sounds like the multi core has some rasp to it.

Is this the XR one sportsman or XR one racing two different mufflers?

This is really an excellent video, but the two mufflers were more similar than I expected.

I am struggling because I have a pair of Borla 40085s (5" x 15" round) on my rig and I think they have a more mild sound that is a hair deeper, but also smoother than either of these oval 12" Borla mufflers and I was looking to change to a pair of one of them to get a bit more rasp.

They're definitely raspier, but now I gotta figure out how much more is enough. 🤔

Either way, great work and thank you...!!!

Fitting some of these to my car which has a V6 twin Turbo.. No idea how it's going to sound lol. I can only find videos of these mufflers on trucks haha.

Anyone have the links to get these mufflers?

Both sounded very similar I don't even know that I could tell a difference until you stopped the car and revved it. The multicore was a hair more raspy and high pitched. Borla claims that the multicore technology is supposed to eliminate drone was any of that the case?

Why do you believe that the Borla multicore XR1 muffler is "for rotary engines"?

Also, why doesn't your example of a Borla XR1 multicore have Borla embossed on it?
