If I recall there are some versions of Alfred where he is an ex military doctor that's why he is able to take care of Bruce after he almost gets himself killed every time.

Honestly, Batman is admirable for working tirelessly without break each and every night, getting hurt and just dealing with it. You can't say that he's a spoiled rich brat, he really works his ass off. Alfred though, he does just as much, he's not just going along his master's weirdness, he's fully committed to the mission and does his best

Somehow, seeing Alfred rock up to the fight in a Batman cowl plus his normal attire is even more imposing than seeing Batman show up. And Batman’s ENTIRE THING is being imposing and scary.
