These trains are primarily commuter trains. You would have seen many more riders in the opposite direction as it seemed to be late afternoon when you traveled. It is a welcome service for those of us who travel often between NYC and the CT shoreline. Thanks for this great report.

I believe CT Rail is actually operated by Amtrak, though the cars are indeed owned jointly by the MTA and CTDOT

This one's a marriage of weird contracts. AMTRAK conductors/engineers/crew, MTA rolling stock, CT Rail line.

Love the review on the new CT Rail rolling stock!

The cars used on the SLE trains have had their third rail shoes removed, making them operable only with overhead wire for now

The train was probably not full because if you were traveling in the afternoon, the commute is the other way.

Good looking trains. I didn't even know this line existed, much less had existed since the 90's! Just goes to show how I little I know about the Northeast once you get past New York

Amtrak's "Value Fare" for NHV to NH-State St is only $0.50.

M8s are split 2 to 1 between CDOT ownership and MTA ownership. with the exception of the pure third rail EMU fleet (formerly the M1A and M3A, today the M7A and the future M9A) for the Hudson and Harlem lines all "East of Hudson" Metro-North rolling stock is split. Four of the railroad's P32AC-DM dual modes are CDOT owned and wear a heritage New Haven paint scheme. the BL20GH are more evenly split and the CDOT ones wear the CT rail colors created when the Hartford Line was launched.

That was a fun video! Did a conductor never come to check your ticket? Wonder if they forgot they had the doors unlocked to that last car. But I would recommend closing the cab door next time, especially if you wanted to sit in the jump seat in front of the window, just to prevent train crew members from getting the wrong idea of you in the cab.

Awesome video! I love SLE, done many miles on it. Sorry about the bathroom situation! That's definitely unusual.

New Haven's station is underrated!

The best place to ride or shoot video is big curve on Niantic Bay. I grew up riding the NHand later the Penn Central. The tracks were awful in thise days and train cars were falling apart.

Many of these stations on commuter lines are surprisingly attractive. Is that front seat available when the cab is in use, or is it shut off for security reasons?
