This may come as a surprise to some, as it did to me. *Air India was the very first airline in the world to have a 100% jet-engined fleet!*

As an Indian I feel bad that these planes won't be made in India - but congratulations to our American friends. Some day we Indians will not just make passenger jets in India but they will be Indian, with Indian engines, Indian design, Indian engineering - USA put in its investment in the aircraft tech decades ago, India will catch up soon & we will have a healthy to & fro competition.

This is how economical prosperity can be achieved when govts of various countries decide to co-operate. Kudos to the govts of India, France and the US for playing instrumental role in this deal. UK too is going to benifit from this deal as Rolls Royce will supply engine and for some aircrafts.

i know indians feel upset that it was not made in india but unfortunately we dont have the infra for such large order maybe in a few years we will have that but TATA is a private company which wont wait for that day because private companies see profit. instead think of it this way when those aeroplanes come to india they will require quite a large staff to operate them and keep them fit for flying

I was hoping that the aircrafts should be manufactured in india. But anyway good for USA.

For those who are saying that Indian companies are creating jobs in other countries....look in this way
These planes are definitely being made by Boeing and Airbus ( a foreign company )
They will eventually come back to india and fleet of around 200 A 320's will operate mostly in india and neighbouring countries creating jobs for aspiring pilots, airhostess, ground team, development of new airports to taxi them, new terminals, more jobs at ticket counter and baggage check-in, new hangars and more technical staff from India to manage them.
More air india means decrease in domination of Indigo, go air and spicejet, eventually they'll stop treating passengers like trash and increase their standards.
A lot more follows that but in the coming yrs aviation sector is a boom for this country

For those disappointed that these should be manufactured in India. Yes we should be but 1. We don't have that level infrastructure. 2. We need to make infrastructure then airplane that will take too much time. 3. Yes govt are involved but it's a pvt company ordering not govt so they don't care where they are getting it from.
