A very underrated musical. Really one of the first of the team efforts, rather than traditional star vehicles at MGM. Great choreography and vocal arrangements. Well done Charles Walters and Kay Thompson. Fun!!!

Loved these two in their prime.Peter Lawford was really something in those days but by the late 1950’s his looks had hardened.
Could it have been the booze ; the way it was with so many of Hollywood’s most handsome actors ?

Indeed MGM is the unabated-and-undefeated champion when it comes to staging its explicitly driving-and-thriving upscale musical numbers that are gaudily-heightened with the inordinately bubbling-and-enthralling entertainment and dandily-brightened with the innately commanding-and-commending coalescing of the exacting-and-exalting embellished scene executions, the diverting-and-riveting lavish sets, the arresting-and-interesting modish costumes, the delighting-and-inviting polished depictions, and the befitting-and-besetting established rosters of the most gifted, top-drawer stars and the goal-oriented, high-powered film crews. Its excellency and efficiency in showcasing the awe-adhered and fun-filled musical extravaganzas still remains unsurpassed in Hollywood motion picture history. For all its grand production numbers will definitely assure the hard-core musical classics fans of having life-altering experience and revelry-stirring moment so as for them to time and again favor-and-savor the fabulosity, luminosity, and preciosity of the Golden Age of Hollywood. And here's one of the shining examples - the best-loved post-war romance-comedy musical classic the 1947 Mr Charles Walters' well refined-and-defined movie version of "Good News" that has exclusively fascinated several generations of wide-ranging audience with its charm, fine scores, and nostalgic touch. Moreover it has explosively sublimated their spirits to the highest level with its pretty-hard-to-top and far-beyond-compare Mr Robert Alton's well-staged rigorous-and-vigorous numbers of "Pass the Peace Pipe" and "Varsity Drag" .The lead stars and the chorus dancers all seemed to be in high energy level and were clearly having marvelous time in performing their deliriously-and-seriously spry musical sequences that were fully swarmed with boundless joy and thrill and duly warmed up with peerless sight-and-flair. For one of the best things in life is to be free in saluting and getting high on all the MGM's highly-prized solid gold musical classics. For sure we will never see the likes of its truly exceptional kind again.

Sadly, Joan McCracken had some serious health problems and died at an early age.
