Incidentally, both Chelsea goalkeepers were knocked unconscious that game. John Terry in goal was one of the moments of all time.

After watching this live I knew more goal keepers will start wearing this. Kudos to Cech for caring about well being over looks.

I play rugby and when I used to be a flanker I tried wearing one of those. I think his must be different because normal rugby ones only have about 1 cm thick padding

They're actually intended to prevent cauliflower ear more than anything

Fun fact. Because of this injury, it was found out that triplets (like cech) have a thinner skull than non triplets

It's funny that in the FIFA 19 video game, they show him wearing the headgear while talking about contracts in a suit, which is not what he does in real life.

The greatest keeper I've ever seen. And I adored Schmeichel....

Once I went a legend game as a neutral and almost wore a Reading jersey. Didn’t realise Cech was going to be present and I was sat right behind him. Would’ve been awkward 😅

Peter Cech is the most underrated goalkeeper.

I had a season ticket at Reading that season and was at that game, one of the most distressing things I've seen on a pitch, worst thing was Cudicini who replaced him got knocked out in stoppage time and they finished the game with John Terry in goal. Not dirty play just two freak accidents.

It was a horrible injury to watch, but he came back just 3 months later and absolutely dominated the league. Literally, unscoreable.

Famously, former MLB player John Olerud also wore a helmet at all times, including on defense. This was out of precaution, as he suffered an aneurysm while in university.

He was a lot luckier than John Thomson. The same happened to him against Rangers when he collided with Sam English, and sadly he died that evening

I am incredibly biased but for me, Cech has to be the greatest keeper, at least in my life time. Most PL clean sheets 202, most clean sheets in a season 24, and dragged an aging Chelsea to our first champions league win. Even before the shoot out, for the two games against Barca and the final he was cosplaying a wall, and that’s before mentioning the penalty saves against Messi and Robben. The man had an almost 50% clean sheet record in the prem at Chelsea (163/333). And this is after the brain injury. Sir Alex should really have thanked Hunt.

Dreadful that we ended up backing the snake over him.
