He seems to be trapped in some sort of room or hallway, and accelerating towards the light. This light represents hope - hope for those who feel trapped in what society expects of them and what they are labeled as. It shows that freedom from the chains of societal pressure is possible, even for those who may currently feel trapped. In the English language, “the” can be used for both sexes. But, in other languages such as french and spanish, “La” is used for feminine purposes and “Le” is used for masculine purposes.
