Large fire at commercial building in North Hollywood

Firefighters are battling a large fire ripping through a commercial building in North Hollywood.

I USED TO EAT THERE AS A CHILD. IT WAS ONCE A VAN DE CAMPS RESTAURANT COMPLETE WITH WINDMILL.

From what I can find, this is the third fire in the last year or so for this building.

This is the old Lamplighter Restaurant that's been vacant since 2006 ffs. Valley Plaza is a disgrace of mostly trashed vacant buildings for mostly over a decade.

If the info is correct and it's not the first fire there, I agree they should let it burn to the ground under control.
It's a lost cause, no matter what started the fire.
Maybe an insurance scam or intentional arson, does not matter; dont leave that place standing.

LAFD you really need to buy the FDNY 95 foot bucket trucks. Then your safer hitting a fire then standing on a 100 ladder.

They went to renovate it and found out it was so much more money than new construction so they opted to tear it down and start over but the cost of demolition and hazardous material removal would cost more than they will ever get out of the property over the course of a decade, so they just burned it down. It happens here a lot with repo houses. It costs more to remodel an older house than to build new and if there is asbestos or lead paint, it would cost up 10's of thousands more to "responsibly" remove these hazards so the new owners just burn it down. Takes less time and if you do it right, they will never know anyways.

When the fire services or suppression industry can ever figure out how to get water out of those million $ trucks, these fires will be controlled so much sooner. How many times do we have to see it take nearly forever for the water to flow, and then the water stream goes on and off, low pressure, etc? It is just the inconvenient truth no one seems to want to address.
