Since 1958, Swedes have explored icons and idols through the platform Melodifestivalen (=festival of MELODY).

Melodifestivalen is the Swedish preliminary contest for the European Song Contest, which has been around since 1956.

So, this has been an institution for over 65 years. And every year, Swedish families explore different icons and idols to emulate – to develop an individual sense of excitement about one's role in life, if you will.

But this institution, which has felt solid in peacetime, is starting to change in character, now that the times are changing for war.

And in wartime, there is less room for individual expressions.

Icons and idols always remain, but the platforms might not.
