The fact that Americans invented the term "PDA" says a lot.

hey, thank you for this video.
I am an elderly german woman, and it was my generation who faught for that PDA freedom. Our parents and grandparents didn't like it. That was in the sixties and seventies. Our cheeky answer to their critisism was: you made war, we make love.

if you don't like it, do not look at it, if you can. You do not have to do PDA yourself.
But I get it, we feel uncomfortable in different cultures, when we are confronted with taboos from our own culture.
As a young woman I went on a road trip to the US.
I was shocked and deeply embaressed with public bathroom stalls. There was too much insight. People could see my face, my legs, could hear and smell. For me the most intimate private things are what we do in a bathroom. Unfortunately I am a human and had to use such bathrooms! it seemed to me to be in a country of ...

As to free usage of public bathrooms: in the US i would have been happy to pay, even 20 dollars, to have a bathroom with privacy

what you feel about PDA might also be similar to what I felt about openly carrying guns, things with the only purpose to kill!
As a german I prefere affection exposed to arms and intimate bathroom stuff in public.
Make love, not war

My parents got used to it, and maybe so will you

Let me put it this way: Some people who hike in the mountains without a shirt will get more attention here than a couple who intensely exchanges intimacies in a park.

Good observations, NALF: PDA, nudity and sex are more relaxed topics in Germany. Clearly seen by the movie ratings. We are shocked more by death, war and destruction in films than nudity and sex.

I think Europeans have the same discomfort with guns as Americans have with overt sexuality

PDA, Pidgeon Documentary Advertisement, that's what the intro was for, no? Am I missing something here?

Years ago I attended a language course in the US in which mainly Europeans participated. In the evenings we went to bars and clubs and were often told by locals that the easiest way to spot Europeans is that they are shy and reserved during the day, but once the evening starts, they will lose all their inhibitions and make out wildly with each other. :D
It was only when the "Amis" pointed this out to us that we actually became aware of it too. While Europeans were showing their affection for others so publicly, Americans were more likely to say something subtle like: "Let's have breakfast together". I didn't understand these hints at that time. Europeans are apparently more straightforward and direct in this matter :D
However, I also have to say that just because some people make out with each other doesn't necissarily mean that they‘re going to be intimate with each other. In my experience Europeans often just like to kiss for fun (without any ulterior motives). 😅So I guess there might also be a cutural misconception of „PDA“.

As no one else has commented about this great intro ( so far) i have to say you did a really great job and it shows that you put a lot of effort in cutting this video :)
Nice done!

If you are surprised by this you might be surprised if you observe people in France, Italy, Spain etc. :D

We often only perceive the things which are occupying our mind. My younger brother used to see drug sellers everywhere, at the very same spots where I used to walk to school. I never saw one. I always saw dogs and cats everywhere, he not. We have such good filters over our perception, that every person will see different things at the same spot and time. And if you do not feel comfortable with something you see, you can choose to look away. I wish you a loving partner so that you can display your affections in or outdoors, when and wherever you like!

Intro: when two people are really flirtatious with each other, they're called Turteltauben, literally "flirting pigeons". So, even though at first glance they might seem disconnected from the video's main topic, the beautiful pictures of the pecking pigeon (pecking meaning both "picking on the ground" and "giving a little kiss") and the lonely, single pigeon at 0:37 are a metaphor for the PDA couple in the park and Nalf. Which is also why your facial expression is equally shocked as the pigeon's at 0:37.

For a second there, I thought this was gonna be a video about epidurals in Germany 🤣 The fact that there's even an abbreviation for "Public Displays of Affection" is so weird to me. Let couples make out all they want, I just don't wanna see them get naked and doing the devil's tango right beside me, for all I care. I feel like this might also be an age thing. When I was younger and in my first ever serious relationship, I couldn't wait to show the world my affection for my partner at the time. Now at 32, my fiancé and I usually don't spiral into wild make out sessions in public (espcially not during a pandemic, but you get the gist).

😊 best thing in the evening after a long day of work in the hospital and three kids... preparing dinner and watching a new NALF video!

If you want to keep your affections private, that's ok with me. If you don't like what you see, if you're feeling uncomfortable, just look the other way. Romance, kissing and more are just normal human behaviour. As long as the people doing it don't feel uncomfortable, it's ok for them and it should be ok for you - live and let live. See: You don't need to look.

The Intro of course gives us the unofficial title of the video, "Nalf and the Mistery of the Lovebirds in the Park". It could also be "Nalf widmet Vögeln im Park seine Aufmerksamkeit", but I doubt that your German would be advanced enough for that, so I stay with my first idea.

I loved the PDA I saw in Berlin. Both straight and gay couples were very handsy.

I liked it.
