I went to the ozark chinquapin meeting (a different species but still Native American chestnut that gets almost as large but not quite as large as the American chestnut) and one of the presenters had good evidence of blight resistant American chestnuts out there. I’m not sure why the current literature says there is 0 resistance in the native population, when diseases are rarely every 100% effective. I think honestly we did more damage by cutting down numerous healthy trees back in the early 1900s. But anyway where is this tree what state ?

They’re still out there, waiting to be found. Hopefully there was another flowering tree nearby and those burs were fertile 👍
