What The Exceptionally Successful Know, That You Don't

How I got here…

21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.

Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).

To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.

You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.

Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.

Never quit,

Alex

*FULL DISCLOSURE*
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

I feel this so deeply Alex. I have spent thousands of hours trading, studying, reviewing, modeling, etc and I never count the hours…and I STILL will do more because not only is that the life I want to live but there’s always adjustments that you need to be looking out for. These people don’t get it. There is no secret formula for these endeavors. It’s just tons of tons of work and you being happy with what you are DOING and not necessarily with the results. When you end up looking back, if you truly are this dedicated you will be able to see progression. That’s how success happens. It’s the only way.

This is so true in engineering, one must go into the void and grind, this is where true understanding is developed, in the trenches and putting in the reps

Thank you for the heads up. This info will actually prevent discouragement for me when starting my podcast knowing what it can take.

The unseen is where all things take place. What is seen is merely on display.

a week ago I told myself that I was going to read for 50 hours. I didn't set a time limit or a daily test so I've been slacking. but I put an hour in the first day, half an hour the 2nd day. and half an hour the third day. today is the 5th day. I should get to reading. puting that much time into any one task is difficult and its more intimidating that one might originally think.

Surprised that this isn’t as big as it should be. That level of work is only understood by the dedicated and ultra focused

I have no idea how many hours I spend on my business. Yesterday, it was at least 7 hours of actual work considering I had back to back meetings but no doubt. It requires a lot of energy to create something great.

Th e amazing thing is that just 10, just 10! Is also transformative!

You’re right I don’t get it, but I am curious. Why does it take 100 hours to prepare for a podcast

I find the shading, color, font, and punchiness of the words to be distracting and make me want to look away and just listen, rather than pulling me in and making me more engaged. It was so immediate that I didn't get through the video and consciously noticed it right away. Hopefully some helpful feedback.

Just because it was hard for you to be great, doesn't mean it's hard necessarily. You reap based on what you SOW, not how hard it was to sow.

A person who pushes a self closing door thinks that the pushing is the reason of his success

I don’t think alex means that though
He’s talking about standard and being a class act in a world of mediocrity
