Finally, I've found a solution for the laggy videos because of unexperienced recording in H.265. However, I have to admit, that the quality drop compared to the initial video was colossal! But anyway it works and with your help, I can finally create a video clip from my recent trip!

Why did you convert it to 1080P instead of keeping it at 4K? If you wanted to keep it at 4K/60 but just change H265 to H264, which preset should you choose on the right side?

Thanks for the tutorial Rajat was pretty useful to convert videos from my iPhone X, encoded with H.265 as well, and then be able to import those in DaVinci Resolve 16 running in Windows 7. This is pure gold.

so helpful!! thank you i have HEVC H.265 codec installed on my laptop but for some reason it still wont play anything above 2160p60 without extreme lagging this has helped massively and its pretty quick you dont really lose any video quality either

I have a question and I find it very weird. I have 2 laptops and these are the models and specs:

AVITA Magus 12.2" 2-in-1 Laptop -

MSI GE60-2QD Apache -

I am a new user to GoPro Hero8 Black. Previously, I am a user of DJI Osmo Pocket. After recording footage on GoPro (4K 60FPS), I went over to MSI Laptop and tried to play the video (as it is filmed on SD Card). It was almost the same issue as yours in the video. However, I wanted to try out also on my AVITA Laptop. Surprisingly, the video played smoothly on my AVITA Laptop where the specs is far worst than MSI Laptop. Note that I am using "Flims & TV" application in both cases. Any reasons for this? I would gladly like to hear your advise on this. Thanks a lot!

Also, I’d like to say your solution works for me. Thanks! But I do not see a need for this if DJI Osmo Pocket do not required this and working properly. I want to find a solution for why slow playback is happening on my MSI Laptop.

Nice video. Plese can zou tell me whether after converting the video quality is the same as before conversion? I have checked that the file after conversion is so much smaller. Thats why I am asking. Thank you.

Hey, great video! i was just wondering, after you decode down to say 1080p, does it loose any quality or is it not really enough to notice? Thank you.

Thanks. It worked well for my gopro videos!

It would be a lot simpler if GoPro etc kept the option to switch between 264 and 265 in the first place. The hero10 has that option but not the 11 or the 12 that Ive just bought. 😡

Hello, I found your video very helpful. I have bought GoPro11, but for some videos I really don't want HEVC codec videos, because then every time I have to convert files via handbreak. Can't I directly shot in gopro11 with H.264 codec so that I don't have to do extra conversion process in handbreak?

Great video and thought I was going to get the answer to my issue but my issue is obviously a different problem. Do you happen to know or have done a video on a "codec" not being installed? Every time I go to download a video from my brand new GoPro 12 onto Adobe Premier I continuous to receive the following message and cannot figure out what I'm missing? "this type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed". Thank you for any help or guidance!

U helped me alot with those tips & tricks! But I do have a question for u with Handbrake app, is there still a way to keep the 4K quality? Cause now I seem to have converted 1080fp HD quality ...prefer to get rid of the laggy frames but I do want to keep my 4K from the original file ...
