We have a very sad group of people here at our office whose job it is to comb through local news footage. Every day they watch hours of local news from all over the country. But every now and then, they hit on something big. This time they came across a hope diamond from a local station in Mississippi where things got stormy between chief meteorologist Matt and a non-chief meteorologist named John.

North Mississippians know just how entertaining watching our weather team can be. We go through hell every year and these guys really take the edge off the existential dread that comes with tornado season.

Lol. This is my local weatherman. They are actually really good friends and released several statements about the situation. John was on the phone with his son who lives in Starkville where the tornado was. The radar went out because of the national weather service in Memphis, not because of John. Matt said he wasn't blaming John for that, he was just frustrated in general and it came out sounding bad. Bless it. They are both great guys. John has been with the same weather station for years. I grew up watching him on TV. Matt has actually won a daytime Emmy for his fast acting reporting during a tornado that hit Tupelo, Mississippi back in 2014. He proposed to his now wife, who is an anchor for the same news station, on live TV there. It really was good comedic relieve for all of us in MS dealing with a tornado that did end up killing someone in Hamilton, MS not too long after this.

Watched this live from my dorm room. Tensions were very high due to the radar going down for several minutes and reports of storm damage as well as college kids being kicked out of restaurants into the middle of the storm, and even a man being thrown from his mobile home were being sent in to them live. These are good people, and they saved a lot of lives last week.

Matt is the absolute best!!! He takes his job very serious. If you live in the viewing area, they are calling for bad weather and Matt is on then you take it serious. If he’s not then we don’t worry about it. We do periodically check to see if he has shown up.

I was in the area that tornado hit but the weather channel was very entertaining that night. Matt and John are wonderful meteorologists and are very passionate about their jobs. But nonetheless entertaining
