SPOILER ALERT!!!
Even though it was 'wrong' I wanted them together, the way it built up was so sweet and kind of real, like if they met in another life they would've been together. It was incredibly frustrating to watch but it was I think a very underrated film. His look at the end with the photos was kind of heartbreaking. I think most people can identify with that feeling of missed opportunities and regrets and how your life feels like it  can just develop a mind and will of its own...

Such an underrated film! I only watched it because of Guy Pearce (incredible actor!) and read all the reviews before and hesitated because people didn't seem to like it. But I liked it a lot and it felt very real and genuine. Guy Pearce said that many of the scenes were improvised!

I thought it was a beautifully crafted film. The cinematography was thoughtfully simple, allowing the subdued story to trickle through. Apparently others that saw this film thought the pace was too slow, but I disagree. To me, the story was one of hidden desires, slowly brought to the surface until everything boils over. The main character had a yearning for year's passed, and even though his subsequent decisions are incredibly selfish, they are admittedly understandable. Responsibilities and emotional ties can grow into prisons over time, and every so often, a way out presents itself. The heart wrenching decision is whether to put yourself aside, focus on what you're supposed to do, and keep moving; or finally give in to the things hidden deep within ourselves, even though they can hurt those we love the most. The entire film is a wonderful visualization of this slow process.

Spoiler Alert.

The last scene in which Lauren's wounds are scarred over seems to either represent forgiveness over time, or the act we put on to keep up appearances, putting on fake smiles for the cameras (society).

Missed opportunities, craving an experience that was so nearby and yet far far away.
Unhappiness, emotional longing and pain.

I think even if he'd choose to be a musician then he would cry over the fact that he did not give it up for his family.

So second guessing goes both way around.

He is underrated. He's brilliant and fresh in everything he does.

I loved this film and still do. The acting and music was excellent and how realistic the story was unlike most movies these days were it's full of cat fights, bad music and over the top acting. This was so full of heart and beautifully directed. A true work of art. I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for Guy and Felicity's characters in the end but he did the right thing in the end.

The cast delivers great performances, I liked how the daughter is the one being hurt the most by the other characters and no one notices it. I suppose the end was realistic, but the scene before that when he performs as chair and the music covering the breakdown of his family is an amazing scene. I did love the music, it was magnificent and went  well with the film.

Loved the movie, everyone was guilty here. The father falling in love with a vulnerable girl in her daughter age, selfish wife who didn't care about his husband dreams and invited a stranger girls into her house even though her husband was against the idea, jealous and stupid daughter, a girl who received generous family hospitality but she was ungreatful and destroyed the family.
Even though the movie made us to love both character and we wished they end up together but the father is the one who carry the most blame here, his action almost lead to kill his daughter and marriage, these kind of love are just temporary and he should have known that. If he really wanted to end up with her then he should have divorced his wife like a man and marry her instead of trying to run away like a teenage kids.

Back to the movie, Loved both character, the ending was really sad, couldn't keep my eye away from Felicity Jones, what a lovely actress, and Guy Pearce, what an underrated actor.

It had quite predictable plot but the emotional, sexual build up was so well played and very intense.
And the soundtrack and editing was beautiful. I wouldn't say this is the best film I've seen but it's definitely moody and brings you into certain state of mind.

I also thought that his smile looks so specific and unique and like I have seen it somewhere before and then I remembered that this is the same guy who played Andy Warhol in The Factory Girl... never would have guessed.

The trailer is not the best. However, the movie is amazing. I strongly recommend it. Great performances and script. Beautiful cinematography.

Drake Doremus makes such incredible, gorgeous films... If you haven't watched "Newness" and "Equals" yet, just go for them. All of his work is so impressive, poetic, smart, and visually mind-blowing (or eye-blowing, I should say). Such a great director..!

Nice film if you are a realist . For a moment -spoiler- I was so mad with him, even considering the idea of leaving his family. But I will admit this, that kind of love that happend to him is tricky and dangerous and MADNESS but you have to do the right thing.

Very predictable plot, but the feel of the film makes it worth watching, along with the great acting and amazing soundtrack. I recommend it for a rainy day by your self.

Guy pierce is so under rated or his agents are not doing him justice.

One of the first scenes shows him talking about his hopes when asked by the new girl and his want to be a member of an orchestra and leave teaching...No, his wife says...and his eyes alone, such a subtle gesture, show resignation and defeat, sadness...great performance.
