There must be order – or so goes the German saying. Rachel Stewart takes a look at the German love affair with rules, organization and order.

Rachel is on a mission to investigate the quirks and idiosyncrasies of daily life in Germany. Every two weeks she explores a new topic - from beer to nudity to complicated grammar - and heads out to get some tips from the Germans themselves.

So....I'm German and I'm currently looking at 4 of those featured Ikea shelves. I've got two more in my bedroom...They're called Kallax.

I just imagine a German standing alone in the middle of a room with a broom in his/her hand, and when the party gets over he/she silently whispers
" *Order* " And just starts sweepinng

The last float in any carnival parade is sure to be the rubbish truck. This is very much true as the Fashing carnival always goes past my apartment and it's a mess. Cheap chocolates everywhere but in the end there is the truck cleaning up. If you missed the carnival you wouldn't even know it happened because in the evening the streets are clean again.

No wonder everyone wants to live in an organised country like Germany, since most of us (Eastern Europeans, Asians, Africans etc) aren't capable of getting our own countries ''in Ordnung'' so it's easier just to move there and enjoy the positive difference unlike trying to ''fix'' yourself and your own society's mentality which is hella hard. Gruß aus Bosnien und Herzegowina!

I was very impressed when visiting Germany when on train stations people were smoking relentlessly on the platforms right next to no smoking signs. This really bothered me because I’m allergic to this type of smoke, I even showed a lady the huge no-smoking sign she was standing next to, but she said it didn’t apply. 😕🤷🏼‍♂️
