Sam & Dave - When Something Is Wrong With My Baby (1967) | LIVE

Sam & Dave were an American soul and R&B duo who performed together from 1961 until 1981. The tenor (higher) voice was Sam Moore (born 1935) and the baritone/tenor (lower) voice was Dave Prater (1937–1988).

Nicknamed "Double Dynamite", "The Sultans of Sweat", and "The Dynamic Duo" for their gritty, gospel-infused performances, Sam & Dave are considered one of the greatest live acts of the 1960s. Many subsequent musicians have named them as an influence, including Bruce Springsteen, Al Green, Tom Petty, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Steve Van Zandt, Elvis Costello, The Jam, Teddy Pendergrass, Billy Joel and Steve Winwood. The Blues Brothers, who helped create a resurgence of popularity for soul, R&B, and blues in the 1980s, were influenced by Sam & Dave – their biggest hit was a cover of "Soul Man", and their act and stage show contained many homages to the duo.

This was my mothers favorite song she once told me. She had stopped listening to secular music when she told me. So, I hunted everywhere until I found it and I played it for her. She beamed as her face lit up as she sang the lyrics and reminisced ; for we know music is a time capsule it’ll take you right back to a certain time and place in your life no matter how old you are. Rest in Heaven Ma ❤

No words can ever describe this performance. The horn section and vocals can't be touched.

Speaking on behalf of my husband, he saw them when he was 15 at Manchester Odeon along with Joe Tex Arthur Conley and Clarence Carter in 1968 he can remember them singing this to a perfectly quiet audience. He listens to it 54 years later and still gets the shivers. What a if he remembers correctly they had pink suits on.

This is beautiful. Watching these young men hold the tone and timber so delicately with every drop. Sharing the spotlight. Blending seamlessly with the band. Hitting all the highs effortlessly. Absolute grace was attained here and I would imagine all involved who got to witness this felt it in their bones.

For those wondering, it’s Dave Prater (baritone) soloing in the first half, then Sam Moore (tenor) for the second half.

Dave was great, but when Sam opens his mouth, something special happens. My goodness.

Voice mates. One compliments the other. So wish this generation understood what true vocals are & can appreciate music with out digital influences. These legends deserve a movie.
