Sensory dendritic spines are perceptible (24 seconds)

Why are the synapses way out away from the dendrite, why is there this long neck?
When calcium is flowing into this structure - for that split second (50-250 milliseconds) - its membrane is opening just as the membrane of the peripheral sense receptor does. That's where these sensory spine-necks can be simultaneous, and we can experience them as fine-grain micro-sensations best seen with eyes closed.
