Trio of see-through Bomartan digital clocks (1970's, England)

Here are 3 different Bomartan models, all based around the same concept, and for the most part, the same components.
Update: There is an easier way to turn off the Coca-Cola display on that clock:
After setting the time and starting the clock, just touch the left (common) contact and the minutes contact, and it will switch to just displaying the time. You can turn the Coca-Cola display back on by pressing the left and right contacts at the same time.

It's nice they had enough forethought to use tantalum capacitors as opposed to electrolytics that would dry out over time.
I would not use any chemicals on the arcylic. The acrylic can be polished with a polishing rouge and a high-speed buffing wheel. You may be able to find someone that works with acrylics in your area that could do that for you.

I remember, back in the day, a jewelry store on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, which had a department dedicated to nothing but acrylic encased items. If memory serves, I believe that they did special orders, especially business cards. The costs were close to $100.00 in 1980's dollars.

Very interesting. I was still living in England at the time these were made, but was never lucky enough to see one.

Good looking clocks! Love the little led's blinking in the circuit! Wonder if the red haze in front of the led segments was like that when they where new or just leeched out of the segment filters over time..

My first thought was the tantalum's! These were made by Latama Inc for Christmas 1978 and sold at stores such as Bloomingdale's, the rectangular one sold for a suggested price of $180 and the round one for a suggested price of $200. I cannot attest to the advertisement tie-in aspect of these item's. Check your email. ~Jack, VEG

Very nice collection. One way to keep competitors from reverse engineering a product...put it in epoxy! Yeah those tantulums!! They do not like ripple either.

Amazing video and channel thanks so much! I have found a (slightly less pristine than yours) Bomartan clock in an old box of wires and junk and I am DESPERATE to get it up and running as they are so cool! I was wondering if there's any chance you can message me about how you made your power adaptor as mine sadly has been lost.

The round one reminds me of the AI doctor from Buck Rogers.

Hi there I thought I would come take a look at your channel and Subscribe after watching Jack Vintage Electronic Geeks channel. I mostly work on old tube radios on my channel and not many transistor radios but hey its always fun to see what someone else is doing.

I’ve recently found one of these, mines a sort of marketing version built for a company as a promotion I guess, does anyone know the rough value of them now?

A shame about that failed segment. So near... yet so far away to get at!
