Attacks on the police and emergency service staff marred New Year's celebrations in Germany's biggest cities, prompting calls for harsher penalties and more video surveillance.

A total of 15 emergency responders were injured in Berlin, with one requiring hospital treatment. The police department said 18 of its officers had been injured.

Berlin's fire department said it was "shocked and saddened" by the incidents, which left many asking what lies behind the apparent increase in violence toward emergency service staff and why they in particular have become a target.

Same in Sweden. My dear country was once peaceful and nice to live in. Sine we had mass immigration from middle east and North Africa there is nothing but violence, shootings (Sweden has the highest rate of deadly shootings in the entire Europe, it´s like a war in the streets) and attacks on They even call ambulance to trick them into ambushes. We pour resources over them, but nothing helps. They seem to be completely impossible to integrate into society. Of course not everyone is bad, but many are.

The issue is not with immigration but with immigration from which part of the world? A community which has consistently failed to coexist with other communities must never become a part of liberal democracies. Incompetent leadership which allows such disasters are ones to be removed.

Germany need to be reminded of what happened in Cologne on the new year's Eve of 2015-16..That should have been a wake up call for them

Angela’s fault. Her irresponsible promotion of illegal immigration and lack of planning on how to effectively integrate them all, without impact for the true German citizens she had the responsibility to protect.

they seem to finally be realizing that banning fireworks doesn't help address the issue of letting millions of people in who won't integrate and who hate your country and way of life.

That’s why (even though I hate the current govt in my country - Poland) I applauded them for not taking in illegal immigrants from the other side of the world. It’s not racism - it’s about a will to come here legally, assimilate, work and respect the culture of the country they live in. The immigrants that Lukashenko flew in to Belarus and pushed across our border were a part of a hybrid war, not a humanitarian crisis. Poland actually takes in a lot of people but they have to come here legally, through a border crossing and they need to asimilate and respect the law and our culture, share similar values - otherwise it’s just asking for trouble down the road. And now Germany is afraid to do anything cause they don’t want to be called racist while it has NOTHiNG to do with racism. Time to wake up, Europe!

I think EU countries in general, especially France and Germany are way too generous and not selective enough in their immigration policies. It does matter where they are from, doesn’t matter one or two may be nice they have to look at the entire culture as they are bringing violence and ruining your culture collectively. Hope German government come to realize their good intentions won’t always get returned with kindness but hostility, they don’t belong there nor can they be assimilated into the western culture. Many of them absolutely hate the western culture and they won’t and can’t change their believes.

I’m Brazilian who just migrated to Berlin and I was shocked by what I experienced in nye. So sad to see so many young kids acting recklessly destroying their own city. And yes as much as it sucks most of them are of immigrants background I went to visit friends in spandau and the streets were like a war zone

Attacks on first responders are common all over Europe. Here in my nation (Sweden) its very common. Always idle young men with no direction or guidence in their lifes. And 99% of them have background in the middle east. And A LOT of them are professional criminals already at the age of 14. The are the errant boys for the big fish criminals. They have been pretty succesful building a maffia like structure not really disturbed by the law because they are all minors

I'm not a white-european and never set foot on europe either, but these outrage is common sense, if Europeans emigrate to another countries in large group and didn't want to assimilate and even worse, going nuts like that, especially in these day and age we'll absolutely going to shunned them, but apparently because these criminals have more melanin and their culture isn't from europe, suddenly criticizing them become problematic when it shouldn't...

In Germany 1 in 5 people have migration background most of them From Turkey(Turks, Kurds, Laz etc...) and Eastern Europe(Polish, Romanian, Croat, Bulgarian etc...). But I have not heard and any of them committing these types of crimes in the last 10 years. These are the illegals who came from Middle East and North Africa after 2015.

As someone living in Germany for almost 33 years, it's true that there are many Immigrants that have integrated and abide by the rules and also respect the culture. That being said, there are many that just don't want to integrate or respect the culture and rules of Germany, you did be surprised to know that many have a long generation immigrant family background and still can't speak simple basic german. Then there are those whose only intentions are milking the social system even when presented with job opportunities, some get into heavy drug dealings and other criminal activities (same could be said about birthed Germans). From the outside, one would point fingers mostly on Immigrants, but the system and policies of the Government also create unstable and sometimes unfair balanced laws in both Administrative and Legislative branch which in turn have a domino effect on Immigrants and non Immigrants.
To each with his/her opinion concerning such problems but I for one 'am that guy that will always say: If you go to someone's house, you have to abide by the rules set in that house or simply LEAVE instead of creating chaos or forcing your own rules, culture and what not on others . Yes there's heavy presence of RACISM and unfair immigration laws in Europe and other parts of the World that creates problems for the Immigrants that wants to respectfully and wholeheartedly integrate and abide by the laws and respecting the culture, but at the same time, there are certain Immigrants that just want to cause chaos and involve themselves with criminality that needs to be sent to wherever legally they came from if that's their

Double citizenship? Take it away if they do something bad. And not only theirs but the whole family. Many of them have passports from their origin so sent them back as well. Don't get me wrong there are many immigrants that obey the law and help in communities and get jobs etc. but all the troublemakers are not needed and cost the state a lot of money for housing them, supplying them with the needs and also having the police look after them as they cannot behave.

Integration is difficult especially with those having different views and values

I'm Czech born near German borders. And I say for years that the iron curtain will be back. This time, Czech Republic will protect their borders from failed German state. Sorry, I love Germany and Germans, but now every time I go there I see only kebab shops on every corner, hateful looks from non-Germans, police with machines guns going around train station...I drink a beer sitting outside a pub and women in burkas throwing hateful looks at me. Not to mention visiting German aquaparks. This is already big no no with my two beautiful daughters. And don't dare to call me a racist. This is just a sad reality.. I want free and save Europe back..

We've had many similar situations in Sweden too. It's odd, fireworks have worked fine for generations, but now they don't. What's changed? Why can't my kids shoot off some? They are acting just as (ir)responsibly as I did as young.
This is what happens when you don't throw out the trash. Eventually your good stuff becomes trash too.

To be honest me as a Dutch visiting German Towns, it is not the ''German'' looking people i keep an extra eye open for.
Neither here in the Netherlands. Don't take me wrong my wife is Asian and most of my friends are not white. There is an issue with people from other cultures bringing up kids caught in between two cultures, at home if you misbehave, the father, brother and cousins literally smack/beat you while the police, teacher and guidance speak to you firmly. When doing youth work, if we know you've misbehaved(from a middle eastern/north African background) and we'd want to correct the youths behavior, we call their family mostly older brother or cousin(proper youth/social worker has worked in the area and knows the families). way more effective.
