The former British prime minister, Winston Churchill, comes out in favor of a "United States of Europe" in a speech at Zurich University, Switzerland, to make sure there is not another war. Though Britain stayed out of the formation of the European Economic Community when it launched in 1957, it soon had second thoughts and eventually joined in 1973. On Jan. 31, 2020, Britain is scheduled to leave what became known as the European Union.

Really shortsighted or worse is the trend for cutting soundbites put of speeches. AP should allow the full search to come up from them as well in the same search. There are some links people will not see watching YOUTUBE on TV, and who can cut such important world-historical speeches without causing some bias, even of not intentional. Lives may be busy, but not that busy.
